New family member.
We pick up this 9 month old Beagle/Hound rescue on Sat. We are calling her Rosie. This pandemic has made adopting a dog a much longer process.

Great Dog Rescue of New England. They were awesome and really took the time to match us up with what we both agreed was the right dog for us.
We had to put down our 11 year old Beagle/Corgi mix due to cancer in February and by the time we decided to get another dog there was a Covid shortage of recue dogs so it took months of looking and applying but they didn't give up on us. |

Dogs
They are wonderful companions. They become such important members of the family. Have no idea why their lifespans are so short. It almost seems like a sin , there is no devotion like a dogs.

In this day and age it seems that everyone wants a "designer" dog.
Have much respect and appreciation for those that choose to rescue Good luck and many happy times with Rosie |

She was so nervous when I first brought her home she hit the trifecta the first 15 minutes she was in the house, peed, pooped, and puked. She's settled in nicely now that she's realised she's being taken care of.

Oh, poor sweet baby. Just think how confused she must be. I wish people thought of our fur babies more like people. They don't understand when they are dumped. I am so glad you are going to love her!

Just a little one week update.
She is the sweetest pup we could have asked for. She has really come out of her shell and taken over our home and our hearts. She trained quickly, no accidents since that first 15 minutes in the house. She is showing her toddler side, wants to play all the time but when she doesn't want to do something she won't move. She's no longer in the crate but we went out for a few hours the other night and she got up on our kitchen counter and helped herself to some snacks that were left out, my bad! Her spunky personality is starting to show now that she has settled in and she's eating well which her foster mom said she wasn't doing with her. She loves to go in my truck so the rides back and forth from Waltham to Meredith won't be a problem. We haven't been to Meredith with her yet and probably won't go for a few more weeks as we are having our wood floors refinished. I will have to wait until spring to see if she likes to swim, my other Beagle hated the water but loved the boat. She has really kept us busy this past week. |

Lost today
We'll she got away today. My back yard abuts the Meredith Town forest and she ran into the forest chasing other animals and we couldn't track her.
If anyone sees her, call or text 508 314 4015. Her name is Rosie and she's very friendly, loves playing with other dogs so if you're walking your dog she would probably come over to you. She does have a chip so if she ends up in custody they should be able to track me down. |

You must be so relieved. It would have been a rough and maybe sleepless night if she hadn’t found her way home.

So, I haven't posted about her in quite some time, but she was hit by a car yesterday. I took her to Meredith Place Veterinary Emergency and they took x-rays, right rear broken femur. They were telling me she may need an amputation.
They don't do surgery there, so I took her home to Ma. It was difficult finding someone to do surgery right away, being a holiday weekend, but she's in a Vet hospital today getting surgery and they will save the leg. She was lucky, me not so much. We have no pet insurance so this is a BIG unexpected bill. |

Sorry to hear about your dog. We lost our golden to heart disease a few months back and it's still hard to not have her with us. We went through two very expensive pacemaker operations and we didn't even think about the cost to keep her with us. We started with local vets and specialists and ended up taking her to Tufts outside of Worcester where they have a special cardiac department. They were wonderful and gave us an extra four years with her.

Beagles/hound are hard to keep still. We had one when I was a kid and that dog just wanted to explore! As in run away. My mom even tried a chain but he escaped that too. It's just their nature I think.

Unfortunately, they called us during surgery and recommended amputation. The break was so bad that they didn't think the bone would reconnect and heal. They said that there was a high probability that we would be back to amputate at a later date.
The decision was made to amputate, and recovery time will only be about 2 weeks, time for the incision to heal. So we now have a 3-legged dog, but alive and hopefully well for much longer. I'm going to miss my walking partner, we walked 4 to 5 miles every day. |

Terrific to hear. Have you considered purchasing a dog backpack carrier? When Rosie tires, place her in the carrier and continue on your way. You get to extend your walk to your prior distance while continuing to enjoy Rosie’s company. Also, a little additional exercise for yourself can never hurt.
