Small Boats

Since we have all heard forever about the BIG BOATS,
let us hear from the small ones. Homemade, canoes, kayaks, dingys, etc. You do not have to go to the Weirs or through the crowded areas to enjoy the lake. What is your tale or creation with the small ones?

Most fun boat....a 16' Alumacraft Classic DLX which is a side console steering wheel, aluminum bass fishing type of a boat w/ a 40hp two stroke outboard. Not really big enough for the Big Lake but big enough to be a big challenge on a windy day. It will get up onto plane at about 15mph and is good for surfin' the wakes and hangin ten(?!) on the big wakes of all those slow moving, big fat cabin cruisers that live at the Mountain View Yacht Club.

One day last summer my son's made a silly plywood boat out of scraps. They had a ball. An absolute riot to watch! The old screw holes were covered with duct tape, so it leaked like a sieve. After that fun they got serious and decided to build a real boat with their dad. A 10' dinghy. What a great learning experience and precious memories all around. The boat is almost finished now.
My son's are going to love that I posted these photos!

got a small Pellican 2 person battery powered fishing boat. hate it. battery ran dead and left me stranded by bass cove. Mother nature was laughing at me. Had my cell phone but no one was answering because they were flying around the lake at high speeds in much nicer bigger boats. ..they too laughed at me..want a little boat? give me a call, I have a great little battery powered bass boat for sale.

Here is their other new (old) boat. Good for a chuckle as they are testing it in a pool.
Maybe they will race the canoe and the dinghy.
I think we are raising a couple of clowns!

Methinks the boys are a bit mixed up,

The canoe in the pool belongs in the lake and the junket in the lake belongs in the pool.

I absolutely love my 14 foot aluminum dingy. It has a 25hp Johnson and it screams! Last summer we went kneeboarding and tubing off the back of it. We had a blast. It is big enough to use to go to the store when I don't want to fire up the big boat. It's a heck of a lot better on gas too! The best part is on Sundays when due to the fact that it is light and aluminum I can crank it up on shore and I do not have to worry about it. *Sigh* Now I really can't wait for ice out.

Small boats seem to be more fun than BIG boats. I learned to ski behind a 14' Starcraft row boat with a 10HP Evinrude. I was much lighter then being only 11 years old at the time. We moved up to a 15' aluminum runabout with 33HP still lots of fun. The bigger the boat the more work to handle it. KEEP IT SIMPLE it's easier.
