Robin Nest In Our Yard

A few weeks ago I noticed that we had a Robin building a nest under the eaves, above our cars. I have been watching it everyday and noticed that it was now spending long periods in the nest. So, I figured that it was safe to say it had laid some eggs.

Today I took this picture of it in the nest and waited until it left; then climbed up on a ladder and took a shot of the inside of the nest and was pleased to see 4 eggs. It will be about 2 weeks before they hatch and another 2 weeks before they leave the nest.

Thanks for posting the pictures. All we have had so far is groups of 4 and 5 on the lawn and no building at least in my view as yet.

The robins will probably have at least two clutches of eggs if they are starting out now! We have friends who had a huge wreath on their glass-fronted entry door. A robin built a nest in the wreath, had a family and then did it again. So great to see.

Several decades ago, and then again a decade later on a different property up here on the lake, a bird nesting outside the house but up under the eaves resulted in an infestation of bird lice, which came into the house. The extermination process was a huge nuisance, and since those occasions I have been careful not to let bird nests get going on our buildings. Yeah, I know, I'm cruel to trash a bird nest, but I don't want to repeat those earlier infestations.

I've encountered a few dryer fires that turned out to be a birds nest or partial nests in the dryer vents. That's one place I wouldn't feel bad relocating a nest. Inside light fixtures that have nesting material are another common cause of house fires.

After getting two Cat rock dump trucks ready to roll for the up and coming season over the winter, I had finished one and parked it out in the yard, and when I brought the other one out and parked it, a robin had nested under the dump body and I took a pic of it...
I'd like to share it with...

Not sure if I was a bird I'd make my nest in a cat.
