Default Feb 17 Nostalgic Latchkey Ice Race-Meredith Bay

Today's race, with modified 4-wheel race cars set up for ice racing, located approximately 500-yards out on the frozen Meredith Bay from the town docks was truly an historic event.

How many race cars participated in running around the marked race track on the ice? do not know?

How many cars, pickup trucks, snowmobiles, and atv's were parked out on the ice there? Do not know, but the true answer could well be that there were one hundred or more cars and trucks parked out there ..... maybe two hundred vehicles ..... who knows ?

How many people were out there? Do not know but it could have been a few hundred..... maybe 500 ..... maybe 1000 ...who knows?

As already mentioned, it was definitely a big event, and here's hoping some photos show up ...... a photo is worth 1000-words ...... anyone have any photos to post here?

So lets get this straight:

You have no idea how many cars there were.

You have no idea how many pickups there were.

You have no idea how many snowmobiles there were.

You have no idea how many participated in races.

You have no idea how many ATV's were there.

You have no idea how many people were there.

You have no pictures to post.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for yet another helpful and informative post. I am sure everyone who reads your post will appreciate it!

Arrow .... about 500 - 1000 yards out on the ice?

There were many, many, many cars and pickup trucks parked out on the ice, maybe a distance of 500 to 1000-yards from the town docks, along with many, many, many, many people, and the race cars, racing around an improvised oval track on the ice.

Without actually counting the cars, trucks and people, it is impossible to accurately says what the numbers were; 100, 200, 300-vehicles .....ditto that for people....but it was easily the biggest number I had ever seen out there in 25-years, for me. There was a huge number of cars and spectators.

Some photographs will hopefully show up because a picture is worth a thousand words, as the old saying goes. Without any photos, it's just a big
unknown ..... with photos, it will be obvious that it was a huge race event ....with many, many many people ...... out on the frozen Meredith Bay.

You get this picture ..... buddy! ..

Who knows ...... maybe we'll have to wait till Thursday when the Meredith News comes out, or till Tuesday when the LaDaSun comes out ...... but with so many hundreds of people out at the ice track .... no doubt about it ...... some pictures should soon show up .....capice!

If no pictures show up ...... then just maybe it never really even happened at all ...... and, it was all an old episode from The Twilight Zone ...... with hundreds and hundreds of people, hundreds of parked cars and pickups, maybe 30 or more race cars, all crammed onto the ice about 500-1000 yards out there ....... and my name is Rod Serling coming to you from The Twilight Zone ... ho-ho-ho ...... (Twilight Zone theme music here) .... and hee-haw!

I think FLL just wants to make sure he stays the leader in posts on this forum. That's why he posts usless crap.

Default Let's be fair here...

I rarely post on this forum but I have been watching as a couple of forum members seen to have some personal animosity against FLL. I don't know FLL and I know he has posted a few posts that I disagree with but come on people, he is generally funny and he injects some much needed humor here. Those 2 or 3 members who always over-react to his posts know that they have the option to not follow his posts, and yet they seem to prefer pouncing on everything he writes. Lighten up a bit.

I went by around noon and there must of been about 100 vehicles on the ice at the races and a lot of people walking out from shore.
Nice turnout after the pond hockey and derby the past few weeks. I did hear however that after the races they had to bring in a front end loader to fix the ice near the ramp. They had a line of cars waiting to get off before it could be fixed

Default I would have not known about this...

If FLL had not made the post...

Thanks...Wish I could have seen it.

I think standing there counting the cars for an accurate count would have been a waste of time (maybe). A rough estimate satisfies my interest.

I think videos would be more interesting than still photos. Someone's got them...Please share here!

I have met FLL at several of our Forum Fests. Although I am not a fan of some of his posts, I do agree that some people need to lighten up.

Just my opinion,
Bill

https://www.facebook.com/pg/finnsgaragenh/posts/ has a 18-sec video from Feb 17 on Meredith Bay showing pickups slowly exiting the frozen lake plus a few still photos ..... from Finn's Garage - Meredith ...... so, who's got a great quality, race track in action movie, taken from a flying drone?

I arrived around 3 to retrieve my bobhouse. The races had just ended and the line of cars/trucks was on the way off.
As soon as they filed off, I drove on and loaded up.
They had placed a logging bridge of timbers and plywood at the ramp. The were patient and waited for me to load and escape, and a huge crowd gathered to give me a hand loading, after which they pulled the bridge with a log/grapple truck.
The ice at the shore is now junk, I don't know if the bridge caused it or if it always was.
A fisherman threw words at the crowd for "ruining it".
Lot of houses still out there with no ramp, and warm weather coming...

As I drove into town Saturday morning... I saw the gathering out there on the ice. Several observations:

There were a few cars
Several trucks
A number of snowmobiles and ATVs
A limited number of participants
A pretty good crowd
Sorry no pics.... BUT

Everyone was parked in the same area so figure the weight concentrated in a small area.... yikes!

They were nice enough to hold this event OUTSIDE the NWZ

In other news (no kidding) I think I have seen it all, both Saturday and Sunday saw lots of ATVs, SxS's, snowmobiles bombing around on the lake, but I have never seen a guy actually out there ice fishing with a LAWN TRACTOR as a means of transportation. Yes indeed I had to do a double take. Now that was worth a good chuckle, sadly no pic of that either but damn that was pretty funny. I almost went over and asked the guy driving if he went by FLL.

No noodles were harmed in the writing of this posting.

A news report in yesterday's Union Leader by Bea Lewis said the crowd of people out on the ice watching the race was estimated to be maybe one thousand people which seems like a huge number to be out there, plus all the cars, pickup trucks, and race cars.

The report in the LaDaSun says a crowd of spectators estimated at 1200.

www.lrirc.com has Feb 17-Nostalgic Latchkey Cup ice race still photos; action and awards

Hopefully some good video footage shot from a flying drone will show up to show this ice race event?
