Default Official 2021 Ice Out Thread

Here we go, another year of watching the ice melt. For all you ice readers out there.. it is very gray, with a forecast in the 60s, and even higher this week!

You know what to do...post your comments and pictures here so we can look back ten years from now and see what Ice out looked like!

www.rattlesnakecam.com/watch.him has all the webcams for your viewing pleasure. Sorry about Snake Eyes this year.

Default The broads is out!

Of course there will be icebergs sailing back and forth a bit... but it’s open water and very windy.

The ice isn't very thick. It's already pushed past my breakwater in the last couple minutes. Everything looks intact. It might be interesting down in brickyard cove or chestnut cove where that ice is all going to end up.

I spoke too soon... Right after posting we lost power on Bear. Hopefully the break is on the Neck somewhere otherwise we are blind until ice out from my vantage point.

N side of Welch. Fish and Dud's straight across. Yesterday's brash ice blew into the broads overnight.
Wide open and blustery today. Time to get the windsurfer out! -Mark

Default Shot from Mink Island (before the power went out - again)

The ice pack was rapidly moving east/disappearing this morning before the power went out...

With some warmer temps coming up the next couple of days and a continued NW winds moderating but not completely disappearing, can't ask for a better ice destroying forecast.

Think island access over the weekend is a real good possibility! Power on the other hand may be by generator.

Looks like the ice may have taken out the black marker and FL in front of your place. Nasty spot if left unmarked for any period of time. I would not be surprised if a lot of markers are missing or moved around all over the place when the ice goes out like this.

Be safe out there!

Agree. Over here on Winnisquam we just opened up. Here yesterday gone today. Mother Nature at here best. Did have a large branch damage the shed roof. Will fix that another day

Default wind vs ice

It sounds like the strong winds have broken up the ice, as opposed to those years when there is one huge ice-pack moving with thousands of tons of mass just wiping everything out as it goes by. Is this correct?

Hoping everybody has minimal, or no damage both docks and downed trees.

I'm guessing Weirs, Meredith and Center Harbor are pretty open. Anybody got status for Wolfeboro and Alton Bay (Mount ports of call)?

Gotta believe we’re not more than a day away from official ice-out being called.

Default Wolfeboro bay

I just looked at the Wolfeboro Town Docks webcam and the whole bay looks about 1/2 socked in with ice. The north side is open.

I can't comment on Winni, but in my year #20 on Lake Wentworth at ice-out, the wind turned the gray ice into a million ice cubes, which form a 50-60 foot band of dancing ice cubes along the south and east shores, with a few large ice floes mixed in.

I think it may be a bit longer. The Weirs is still jammed up, Wolfeboro has plenty, and I think Meredith and Center Harbor aren't in any better shape.

Once I can get my boat out of the Weirs and Smith Cove is open that'd good enough for me! We are clear just around the corner from you.

Red face Following Some Head-Scratching...

In the photo with the red dock, there appear to be some abandoned ice-fishing holes that the wind has washed ashore.

Some are round, some are square (or rectangular), but each has a story.

60 degrees today and tomorrow. An inch of rain Wednesday & Thursday (to help the lake level too). 15+mph winds on Thursday. 50+ degrees and a good amount of sun Saturday thru next Wednesday with ~10 mph winds every day.

If most of what ice is left has already been mostly broken up I would guess it should be ice out within the next week.

The Center Harbor and Wolfeboro cams still show a fair amount of ice in the bay. Still a bunch of crap in front of the Weirs as well. but that may go today. Probably not today for ice out.

The Smith Cove cam is down so I cant see if the sheets that blew in there yesterday are gone. Planning on having a boat in on Saturday if everything is clear enough, which it should be.

The Smith Cove ice blew to the east end blocking the mouth of the cove. I'll look again about noon as we would like to escape from Fay's.

Alton Bay is ice from the bandstand up to about Boat Cove.

Update: at 11:15 there was still ice blocking the mouth of Smith Cove.

And: at 4:00 pm still not able to get out. The car was packed to load on the boat and we was iced in by 100' of jammed ice. The rest of the cove is clear and the rest of the way to Welch is clear. #%@*&%

You can find Boat Cove Road on Google Maps. Just south of Loon Cove Road.

Just posted by Emerson Aviation:

"Good Morning all. Well it's not yet. Still lots of ice in Center Harbor. From First Neck to Mile Island and from Black Cat, Three Mile and Big Beaver Islands. Won't be today or even tomorrow. Thinking maybe Monday or Tuesday."
