Default Upcoming Snow

Whats does everyone think of the upcoming 6 to 12 inches of snow coming this week? I know it is putting in a position I have never been before. Wonder what the summer will bring?

Default travel question

my daughter is flying into MHT on Fri. nite. Is storm #1 supposed to have ended by then? She is scheduled to leave Sunday eve. (going to Alton) I know what the weather on the computer says...wondering what the local weather says...if she should be able to sneak in and out between storms
From what I see from here (PA) its rain in Manchester for both storms, although i know better than to count on New England weather much! Appreciate any input!

Default No Snow Yet

Just check out the various web cams around the lake. The temperature on the Black Cat Weathercam is 32 degrees. In eastern Mass. the precip has yet to start.

Thumbs down

Lets see, my kids can't play baseball because Opechee's fields are covered (or soaked between snowfalls), I can't clean up my leafs for the city's scheduled 04/30 leaf pickup, I can't get out onto the lake to ice fish, and I've been putting off fixing the 4WD in my truck cause its April and the snows over....

Like PBR says "Forum etiquette and censorship prohibit me from expressing my true feelings on the subject."

Well, instead of complaining about more snow, I plan to take advantage of it and spend a couple of days on the ski slopes. When in New England you have to take advantage of whatever Mother Nature dishes out. The kayaking, boating, hiking, and swimming will all happen when conditions are right for those activities.

About two inches of fluffy-icy snow has fallen so far in Waterille Valley which has an altitude of about 1600'. All 100+ km of cross country ski trails are available for free now that the cross country center has closed. XC closed on Sunday as did the down hill area, so the xc trails were groomed as of last weekend.
Lots of cover, lots of snow, lots of semi-groomed cross country ski trails.......and no fee. Suggest all you 'Live Free or Die' guys buckle that seat belt.....its slippery out there!

www.Loonmtn.com, supposedly closes on Sunday.
.................................................

And who was that NH state rep who must have been speeding at 85-90mph yesterday morning 8:45, going south on Rt 93 along the Campton flats, in a light green VW Passat, NH House license plate 3-55 ? Maybe they were speeding down to Concord to vote against the seat belt law.....who knows?

It was probably that same rep that was caught speeding last week and nows she's fighting it claiming reps are immune when they are on there way to work.

It is my understanding that at one point in time this was not far from the case. I have a relative in legislation and remember hearing something about this years ago, although I never looked up a law to confirm it. I know that tolls were not applicable either.

It appears that we get a break in the weather for today and Saturday then we are getting a nor'easter. Has anyone heard any snow totals yet?

If you mean estimated snowfall for the upcoming storm, the forecasters have been reluctant to estimate because the rain/snow line is unknown at this point. If you mean for the storm we just had, it's hard to tell how much snow actually fell here because it was so wet and heavy that it quickly compacted. But my best guess would be about 5", maybe 6" at the most.

Not quite one Yuki!

I heard thst it could either be up to 2 inches of rain or 2 feet of snow. I would say that just about covers everything in between!

Waterville Valley got a heavy 6-8 inches of fluffy-icy snow from yesterday's storm and Meredith neck got about two inches.

Default Quick look

I just took a quick look at snow/rain amounts with a tool developed at the NWS in Buffalo. It looks like ~4" of snow/sleet falls from ~10:00 am to 8 pm Sunday, then it switches to rain which deposits 2" by 8:00 am Monday. Then the rain becomes light and keeps going forever. Okay, only until Wednesday night...it's just going to feel like forever.

Now this is only one model which I'm looking at, and most likely contains some errors in timing, p-type (weather weenie shorthand for precipitation type) and amounts, so keep watching your favorite weather source.

I just heard on Channel 9 News that this storm could produce up to 1 to 2 feet, did not mention any areas. I guess we will see what happens over the next few days

The "Upthesaukee" steel measuring tool came up with about 4.5 to 5 inches of snow last night as it was about finished. Melting and compression has it down to about two inches left.

I understand that some of the "p-type" (neat Rose ) can be an altitude thing...I think it was Channel nine that said higher elevations, probably 1500 or higher could see significantly more snow than lower levels. Sounds like the old cold air aloft, and warm air at the surface dilemma again .
