Default From Scratch Baking Company, Wolfeboro

Had a delicious GF cupcake from there today, and a birthday cake a few months ago was incredible. It's a family operation, right near Harvest Market. Knowing them a little, I am comfortable saying that the owner is a trained pastry chef and that standards are very high. (As a side note, they provide opportunities for several folks with disabilities.)

Just thought I'd mention them here. Not sure of the cost, as I didn't go either time, but the quality is definitely there.

Went there twice this past year, placed an order they were very nice gave them a 4 day notice both times , went to pick up the pie and their answer was i didn't have time to make it. I ordered this as a birthday surprise and felt awful that i couldn't get it, no time to try anywhere else, and yes no call , no nothing...
Second time almost the same thing, I guess i didn't learn the first time BUT i have now !!!

I wasn't looking for advice on favorite bakeries, as I'm not that interested in them. But I did want to say something nice about a local business that I was pleased with on two occasions.

I have likely done them a disservice, sadly, because of the negative comments that followed.

The owner of From Scratch has taken on a noble challenge, and my husband, guests, and I have been very pleased with the various items we've picked up there, not only for gluten-free friends. But we've never ordered anything in advance, just purchased things they had in-store that looked good.

What do you mean by "has taken on a noble challenge". Just curious. Thanks

Ouch, That's worse then saying the food was bad. Sometimes the truth hurts though.

The pastry chef who founded From Scratch did so primarily to provide useful, productive work for her Down's Syndrome sister and others with disabilities. The OP did mention this, but only briefly and parenthetically. Starting and operating any small business in the Lakes Region is a challenge -- here are some links that explain why this is also a noble one. And again, everything we've tried there has been delicious.

Thank you for answering my question. That does put things in context. Hopefully, they are able to work out the delivery kinks. If The Yum Yum Shop does not open in 2017 as has been mentioned this business should be well positioned for success if it can handle the growth. Good luck.

There are a couple of other bakeries in Wolfeboro. La Boca (hope I have that right) is on Mill Street and though I have never been there either people that have say it is great. I think there is another one on Railroad Ave but that name escapes me right now. I did go to the Yum Yum for doughnuts and occasionally bread but other than that I don't buy a lot of pastries.

Stellaloona is the name of the bakery on Railroad Avenue. I have not yet been a customer of Stellaloona, so I can't offer any insight there. But I would like to offer two hearty thumbs up for both La Boca and From Scratch. We have only good things to say about both. Very nice people, very yummy & fresh, homemade baked goods. La Boca baked us a beautiful cake for a special occasion that received rave reviews. And the good folks at From Scratch have a special mission that is deserving of community support, IMO.

If you hate to say what you said and you haven't been there, then why say anything?

Probably because it is a forum where you pass along your experiences as well as things that you have heard.

But I like Tis's response better!
