Default Meredith ramp closed

On the way to work I noticed a sign placed in front of the Meredith boat launch stating it was closed.

BR,

I believe that all boat launches are closed until early April, sign or no sign.

Yep, they closed it after the truck went through. There are a lot of bob houses that still need to come off!

You know I was thinking about that. With what 6-8 inches of slush how does one go about removing a bob house through all that?
Oh and I can't be certain but it looked like the Center Harbor ramp was coned off as well. Like I said I'm not sure I only noticed the cones as I drove by today.

I saw the CH ramp blocked off as well due to the truck that went through there a few weeks back. I have taken mine on the ice many times but the last 2 years were not good ice years and I stayed off.

Some of the Meredith houses may have to come off in pieces!

What happens if the weather stays warm and there are no ramps to remove the bobhouses? It doesn't look like many of them could be easily disassembled. And even if they are, if the ramps are not accessible, then what?

This is what we do when numb skulls ruin the ramps with trucks!!!! Sometimes alternate routes do not work so well either. Pics are from 2009 when fishing until april 1st was our goal. Missed it by a day or so. Glad "Bobhouse skimming is legal" http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...1&d=1362094567

Default Alton Ramp

The Alton Bay ramp is about had it also and now that someone got stuck in the huge hole in front of the ramp and put a ton of sand on the ice, and the sun being as high as it is, it won't be long.
I am going to try and get mine off this weekend but it does'nt look promising.

Saw a few bob houses getting towed off at the Meridith ramp last night while I was eating at the Lago......(I had a gift card.) They were using snowmobiles and going at the ramp at an angle. Good luck to everyone. Temps in the low 40's most of the week.....

Default Successful Shack Rescue

Ive got a very heavy 8x8 bob house - weighs over 2000# and after trying for 4 hours yesterday, shoveling a 30 foot area of 6 in of slush, and burning up my snowmobile belt, I was ready to give up. But this morning I lifted up the shack and slid 2 of those blue/red plastic kids sleds under the skis, nailed them on. I then tied a rope to the front of the plastic sleds and tied it off on the shack so the front tips of the sleds would be lifted up a bit to keep them from digging in. Finally, I split a 5 foot section of stove pipe (length wise) and wrapped it under the front edge of the shack to make a skid plate so it wouldnt dig into the slush. I fired up the Yamaha and much to my amazement it worked ! I pulled it a good 1/2 mile through some sketchy stuff near Trexler's - I'll try and post a picture -

Default Unintentional swim?

Drove by the ramp at about 4:40PM this evening and I see a guy pulling himself out of the water at the spot the truck went through. I did a double take thinking maybe a training exercise but the guy appeared to be alone and had an empty jet sled (used by ice fisherfolks) in one hand. He didn't appear panicked at all...his bigger concern was probably how many people witnessed the adventure. Why he was walking over that fairly obvious "off looking" spot I have no idea.

I drove by at 2:45 and there was a guy standing at the big hole tapping on it with his foot. I wonder if it was the same guy on his way back in!

Hopefully most start pulling their bob houses this weekend or next week. The 10 day forecast shows upper 40's, rain, and many nights when it will not refreeze. I think the days of fun on the ice are numbered.
