Default Island home inspection and internet question

Can anyone recommend your favorite (best) person to do a thorough home inspection on an island? We are not from the area so could use some guidance to choose someone who has experience with these homes.

Also, for those of you on the islands in Alton, what do you do for internet/cable/satellite, etc?

Thanks in advance!

My personal opinion on home inspectors is that they give you a high level overview of the property. If you are going to have work done at property my recommendation would be to take a contractor with you as well. There is a chance they will do it for free if they think they are going to get some work out of it. In terms of home inspector recommendations I don't have any specific ones but hire them yourself and not through your realtor or the selling realtor.

Have used Housemaster based in Rochester several times.
Very thorough and professional.

I can't speak to the home inspector, but I can speak to the Internet question.

Many of the islands in Alton have DSL available. Rattlesnake and Sleepers for sure. There is no cable to any of the Alton islands as far as I know.

I would like to bring something faster than DSL over via a wireless link, but have yet to find a mainland location that can see our place (on the Gilford (West) side of the "thumb") and with owners who are interested.

Satellite TV is available if you can get an unobstructed path to the satellite. Depends on where you are on the island you are looking at.

We live on Barndoor Island in Alton, facing SW. Directv works great. We've lost service a couple of times - lightening strike, falling tree limb hitting dish and both times the Directv service person arrived the next day and fixed the problem. They enjoy making service calls to the island! The extra charge each month for damage insurance is worth it. You can freeze your account when you close up for the winter. We use an AT&T hotspot for wifi and it serves our needs while on the island.

Call Greg Davis at New England ProSpect at 603-235-6015 or info@homeinspectionsbyprospect.com.

Excellent guy, best inspection team out there by far.
