Default Missing bouy Meredith Bay

Just a heads up folks. While fishing Meredith Bay yesterday (which I might add was very successful) I noticed that the black bouy marking the rock pile at Maiden Lady Cove is missing/gone. Be careful in that area!!!

Question Thread for missing buoys?

Thank you. We might benefit from making a new thread of missing buoys in general. It seems that every Spring there are several that have gone missing. It could be win-win to have folks report them here so that MP can see the posts, while also reporting back when they've been replaced.

I like this one,
any forum members work for the MP that can keep us updated of those that are missing and those that have been replaced or moved on purpose?

The buoy on the south east side of Grant Island has moved about 1000 feet.

Good eye.Fortunately both those spots don't show rocks where the markers are missing, just shallower water.

Oh, that's a really bad spot for a marker to be missing.

Lake Pilot, I have to confess, I had to look up Grant Island. I had no idea where that one was.

Red buoy that accompanies black buoy (100 feet away) half way down Alton Bay is missing. Marks shallow water, only dangerous in the fall. Buoys are directly across from lighted Buoy (#?)

I've always wondered what the protocol was/is for replacing these bouys. Is there a time frame that MP or whatever jurisdiction goes out to make sure the markers and bouys are in the right spots or there at all? Great thread by the way..extremly useful...

Default Found one!

I found one wandering black buoy near shore on the SW side of Timber Island on Monday while fishing. The cable was hung up in some ledge, otherwise I would have retrieved it and delivered it to Glendale directly. I did call Marine Patrol and they'll recover it soon enough.

My guess -- based on past observations -- is that buoy maintenance is an ongoing MP activity. I think it was a couple seasons ago that a series of missing buoy's marking Sally's Gut were replaced in the late-July timeframe. I never assume/rely on every buoy being where it should be, but most seem to be replaced earlier in the season rather than later.

This indeed is a great thread- observant boaters helping to improve lake safety for everyone. What are the chances of the Marine Patrol following up on resolving these issues? It would be a nice opportunity for some much needed PR.

Has the Marine Patrol ever responded directly (or indirectly) to this forum?

Don't we think they have their work cut out for themselves, instead of browsing a forum, where there are lots posts that do not concern them?

Why not make the initiative to contact them directly???

Exclamation Missing red marker

The red marker due south of Little Island in Paugus bay is missing. There are rocks that will ruin your day if you are not careful

Default Marine Patrol notified

I sent an email to the MP with this thread as a link. I will post any response I get on this thread.

As a matter of fact, I think the MP would benefit a great deal by checking out this forum. Whether you care to admit it or not, there is a fairly large segment of the boating public out there that feels that the MP could be doing a lot better. By monitoring this website, I believe they could get a fairly good sense of how they are perceived. Yes, there is a lot of unfounded criticism towards them, but there is also information that they could use to improve their overall mission.

The missing buoy observations listed here could make their job a lot easier. It's not meant as a threat by any means.

I also asked an innocent, non-threatening question about whether or not the MP has ever responded directly to an issue on this forum. I have no agenda, I'm just seeking information. I THINK there's a person named Skip that seems to be very knowledgeable concerning MP issues, but it seems he's not doing it in an "official" capacity. Have they ever responded?

Default South Bear Island

One of the red markers is missing from the two pairs of reds and blacks at the southern end of Bear across from Mark. Its the one closest to the boy's camp. There's a rock showing near where the missing marker is so we hugged the blacks on the way around past the beach at the boys camp.

We had dinner at the Lyon's Den early Saturday night and there was no sign of activity at the Marine Patrol dock. We spent some time cruising the lake earlier in the day and didn't see the MP anywhere. Is it too early for them to be out?

We saw Marine patrol out on Saturday and Sunday in Meredith Bay, Paugus and Alton areas. Yesterday we spent 5 hours on the boat and did not see any activity from Marine Patrol.

Only once that I recall. Some years ago the MP got a new boat and they were out on Winni putting it through it's paces and finding out how it handles. Seems a number of people found that to irresponsible and posted their opinions to that effect. Someone from the MP posted in an official manner as to what and why they were doing that day. I happened to have been in agreement with their thinking. Other than that I don't remember any more "official" communications. Like a lot of people on the lake I'm sure there are a number of officers who read the forum ... in a non-official capacity.
