Default Whose is bigger???

I recently became the new owner of the Manitou...a 51' Bluewater Coastal Cruiser. All my friends keep asking why and my only response (as a guy should have) is that "it is bigger!".

I know there has to be bigger on the Lake, does anyone know what there is for bigger private vessels?

GO SOX!!!!

I would think you're in the top three

An acquaintance of mine has a 2001 Azimut 46 tied up at the end of my docks. Nice diggs. Just let people know when you're really cruising out there, so they can be prepared for the wake

Seriously, congrats on a great boat.

I am anxious about going from 31' with a 12' beam to 51' with a 14.5' beam...using the same slip that I thought was tight before!

In my younger days I remember chasing the Manitou around with my jetski to ride the wake...now that I am older, i think I will appreciate the dryer, smoother ride!

How big is the Manitou's gasoline, or diesel tank? My boat has a six gallon gas tank!

No, Mark got rid of both the big Carver & the famous Summa Humma 49' Fountain and got himself a water tricycle. It has three very big wheels and it gets peddled across the water, built by Tuffy. You know, I miss that purple & yellow, checkered 49'er....it was like something you'd see in an Arnold 'terminator' movie.

Where-o-where is the Summa-Humma? Where did it go.....Miami?

I have 300-gallons of capacity...feeding two 350's, so I can make it from Fay's to Alton Bay for about $1200! Maybe I will get a water trike too!

Depends on the cash available I would imagine

Carver's parent company, Genmar Holdings, filed for Chapter 11 today. It looks like they'll do OK, hopefully. That company owns Four Winns, Larson, Glastron, Sea Swirl and many others like Ranger and Carver.

Jon,

Congrats on your purchase. I hope you restore the Manitou to her former glory. I had the opportunity to skipper the Manitou a couple of times in the past, once bringing it to Braun Bay. It sure gets a lot of looks and comments. I was sad to see her left to fall into disrepair, glad to see someone picked her up and is going to keep her on the lake.

Default Still here

Marc sold the 53 foot Carver about 4 years ago. It is still on the lake with the new owner. It was winter stored at Irwin's in Lakeport.

The rumor was that she was to be sold and moved to salt water somewhere...knowing her presense on the Lake, I couldn't let that happen! It will be fun restoring her to glory...I have some neglected gel coat to deal with. Anyone want to have a waxing party?

Has anyone had good luck with any of the seemingly endless choices of restorer wax? I just picked up the 3M Compound/Wax at the urging of the guys at West Marine...now I just need to practice my "wax on, wax off" moves!

GO SOX!!!

Suggest you talk to the guy at Diamond Shine about how to restore fiberglass shines. He is next to Tom's Outboard in Gilford, up behind Sawyers ice cream.

I thought it had twin 454s??? Anyway, congrats!

Keep it below 9.28 knots (max hull speed assuming 48 feet at the waterline) and it'll sip gas.

Question since the subject came up. I was told that one should never use compound on gel coat. Right or Wrong???

You know what I use on old sun-faded, yuchted out fiberglass.....I use paint..on a couple small 25 year old sailboats. You can always sand-clean-prime-paint cruddy old fiberglass. Fay's Boat Yard has all the very scientific and very expensive, two-part boat paints like Pettit but I just use Rustoleum or Ben Moore oil paint and it lasts a couple seasons stored out of the water. Applied with a three inch roller and small brush....what the heck...

There they are...where I was and where I am! I have my work cut out for me, but the Manitou is in pretty good shape...she just needs to be loved again (and buffed, and have new carpet, and new mattresses, and new cushions on the top deck, and on and on).

The other boat is priced for a quick sale if anyone is in the market...see my ad on the for sale site!

YIKES! What a market. I was browsing the Fays site, and they had a 2007 Chap 275 priced almost $20k more than what my dealer just sold a brand new 2008 holdover for. Albeit, the one here had no trailer. But still, one year newer and brand new.

Awsome news Jon!

Now, stupid me, what does "Manitou" mean?

By the way, I'll trade you a day of elbow grease with a buffer for a trick at the helm!

I saw the Summa Humma for sale at a used car dealership on the Lowell/Chelmsford Ma line, 2 summers ago, who knows where it went.

There are two meanings to her name...

Manitou was the 62-foot yawl commissioned by JFK as a floating White House.

Manitou also means "Spirit of the Water" to a group of Native Americans...forgive my ignorance, not sure which group.

We were going to re-name her, but after learning about the historical and cultural meaning of her name, I decided that she stays the Manitou

If you are talking about "High Line" motors on drum hill that's not the Summa Humma. I think that's the owners boat. I saw that boat last night and it a different Fountain.

Congrats on your new condo.

Please remember to ease her down in tight quarters (eagle island] [motoring into glendale), we little boat people still have to 'ride the wake'

One time about eight years ago I tried to assert my assumed right of way with the Manitou, out by buoy 3, while sailing a 12' Hobie Holder. The Manitou had a lot of people on board, and the skipper did not let me have my assumed course and I had to change course. It looked like it was moving close to its top speed, too, headed for Meredith.

I was think'n, this is a sailboat, you are a motorboat, therefore I have the right of way. As it continued on its course, it got closer, and I quickly started to rethink my situation. This actually happened on two different occasions.

So, where's the Marine Patrol when you really need them?

Many of us asked the same question last year. Many, many times. Perhaps you could consult APS and he'd tell you that you were in no danger, since the velocity of the boat wake was not very high.

BTW, was riding the wake thrilling?
