I walked passed Trexlers yeaterday ( May 6th ) the price on the back dock was 3.659..... Looks like the gas pumps on the front dock reflect last years prices.

Why would you need anything higher than 89 octane on this lake for anymore.....Not like you can use a high performance engine to it's fullest at 45MPH........

regardless of speed, if you use anything less when higher octane is required you can do damage to your engine.

I don't know if this was an honest question or if you were just joking, but you need to follow the manufactorers requirements on octane rating to avoid problems.

Over and above manufacturers recomendations there is a contractual reason as well. I hauled gas for many years and any and all non-gas station type entities that only sell one octane ALWAYS use 89 octane. I am not sure what the reason is but I have never seen an exception. Post offices, town DPW's, Sky chef at Logan airport, small contractors with their own tanks, pretty much anyone that only has or sells one octane sells 89 octane.

I posted this before but you can always tell what you are getting if you just find the tank (not too hard) and look at the color of the cover (usually 40-50 feet away from pumps in the parking lot). At a marina there should be an above ground tank with a color coded cover on it.

Orange is always the vapor recovery system
White is 87 oct
BLUE is 89 octane
Red is 92 or above
Yellow is diesel
brown is kerosene
Green is dyed kerosene or dyed home heating oil

These are universal, look near the pumps the next time you get gas, you will most likely see 2 whites and a red, maybe a yellow if they have diesel. There will also be at least one orange for every gas tank. Most stations don't have a PLUS tank (89) because most modern pump setups mix the regular with the super (66% to 33%) to get plus.

A bit off topic, my apologies,
HCG

Most factory engines are specified for use with 87 octane. A few luxury and car engines require or suggest 89 octane.

I don't think any factory engines require more than 89. I'll guess that's why it's the default for places selling only one octane.

Most modern engines have knock detectors and will run safely on any octane. But your performance will degrade if you use lower octance than expected.

Obviously if you a have a peformance engine, you must follow the advice of the builder.

Is that true? I haven't been in New England for a while. Seems like another tree loving group got their way up there? They tried to get this enacted 20 years ago.

This should be awful for the boating economy. The power boaters are the guys who spend the money. Not the camping kayakers. OUCH......

I wish someone would sell 93 octane on the lake. Is there anyone who does?

My boat is slipped with a 50 gallon tank so other than the initial fill while on the trailer, a gas station on the road is not a realisitic option.

The highest octane I have seen on the lake is 91, available at Y landing.

Default Question

Our marina is adding the stabilizer for ethanol this year to their tank. Is this common around the lake?

Yes it is...Unfortunately they are all adding different stabilizers so in my opinion (and the opinion of Jeff Fay, Fay's Marina head mechanic) it's best to try and buy your gas at the same place so your not mixing stabilizers.

Some places are using Startron, others Valvtech or something different. I am trying to get a list of what each marina is using so I know where to gas up in the future. Right now I am gassing up at Fays as they are not using stabilized fuel and I add my own (Marine Stabil). Haven't had any issues yet.

I'm not sure if you're just referring to marine engines; my 496 Mag HO is designed to run on 87 octane but my 1990 T-Bird Supercoupe and 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S both require premium per the owners manuals. But you're probably right; other than the Shelby Mustang, new Camaro and Corvette, most domestic cars probably don't need premium. It's probably just the foreign luxury/performance cars that need it now. Sorry for going slightly off-topic again.

Have you looked into either of these (or something similar)? I know they're expensive but if you need the 93 octane, this would be one way to get it to your boat.

May 24- Trexlers was $3.35 at the inside pump (up close to the road) The outside pump (way out on the dock) is still not open. They said it might be open on weekends starting this coming weekend.

BTW, they use ValvTech for their additive.

Not a bad idea but two things must be considered here... First 29 gallons of gas is heavy.... even 14 is nothing to just sling over your shoulder.

Second. While there is nothing that stops a private home owner from bringing gas down to their dock on their property and putting it in their boat that I know off... If a boat is in a Marina, or Yacht Club, quite often they have rules that don't allow this. As these are business and have commercial insurance, and get a rate reduction if they write rules to prohibit such things.

And if you haven't been to West Alton Marina this year, the gas dock is moved to the area that used to be valet parking. It is on the right just after where the construction barges park.

Slightly off topic on prices, but we were surprised to see the gas pumps moved. May have been mentioned earlier. Back to prices.

Slightly off topic on prices, but we were surprised to see the gas pumps moved. May have been mentioned earlier. Back to prices.
If you didnt know about the new gas docks at WAM then you probably dont know about the 12 new docks where the old gas dock used to be. they started dregging the channell last january and finished It last month. Also they put In a new launch ramp. Rumor has It that they are going to do the next faze of dregging for new docks next winter. Another twelve docks are planned.

Default www.winnigas.com

A website specifically to help track gas prices on Winnipeaukee: http://www.winnigas.com/

It is mobile phone friendly so you can check prices and submit prices you see right from your phone while out on the water rather than trying to remember to do it when you get home.

Presents a nice list ordered by date, newest date right up at the top.

They seem to always have the best price around. Filled up there before launching last night. That's one of the benefits of trailering.

I fill all my tanks at the Circle K all the time and then I pour the gas from my tanks in my PWC. By the way- you can submit these gas receipts for a toll tax refund.
