Default Site is unusably slow

Anyone else having an issue with the site been extremely slow?

Up at the lake this weekend I couldn’t access the site on my iPhone. It was just insanely slow and wouldn’t load. I thought it might’ve been my cell service, but it’s doing the same thing back home on fast Wi-Fi and on different devices, i.e. desktop computer and iPad.

Default Unusable

It has been almost unusable. I assumed it was down…but it is extremely slow. I assume the Webmaster is aware.

I'm using Tapatalk and haven't had any issues other than when at camp where Verizon wireless was unusable after 7AM every day this weekend.

Last night and right now, it's functioning perfectly on WiFi.

Default Time

Each “click” takes 55 seconds to get to the next screen. We have Spectrum internet and this is unique to the Forum.

It's always hard to know if it's "just you" or others too. For me it started on Monday 5/29.

I'm getting the same results as Newbiesaukee, about a minute to load a page or go to the next screen when clicking something.

Default Still slow 10:30 am

Still unusably slow on my desktop via Xfinity. I don't have a phone comparison. 10:30 am, Tuesday 5/30/23.

Using Tapatalk on my Samsung S21, it's totally normal.

But I just tried using my school computer, and it's absolutely not functioning properly.

Sorry about the problem. It is the forum, not you.

The problem started early on Tuesday morning. The problem is with the ad display software. Whenever an ad is displayed an error occurs and the rest of the page doesn't load until the error times out. This takes about a minute.

Tapatalk works fine since it doesn't display those ads. The forum can be used if you wait a minute between pages. Painfully slow, I know.

For several years I have contracted a consultant (Nick) who helps me with software and database issues that are beyond my experience. He has always been great but now I haven't been able to reach him. He did log in to the server this weekend but I think he may be on holiday now.

I worked on it most of yesterday without success. I had to go out today and hoped that Nick would surface. I will try a few more things tonight if I don't hear from him.

Again, I apologize for the problems. They have been rare. I'll try to get things working properly soon.

Not completely fixed but I removed the ad code from the headers and other pages. When I get the ad display software fixed I'll put the code back in.

I missed checking it. I gave up when every click took a minute. Glad it is back. Since it was just this forum, I assumed it wasn't just me.

Default Thank you

Thanks, Don. All OK here, now. Who remembers dial up? Acoustic couplers? Same load time for everything. We've been spoiled and it's all for free.

I was thinking about dial up when the site wasn't working. How did we stand it?

I am running FireFox on a PC and never had an issue. Learning that it was ad related made me wonder. I have both AdBlock Plus and Ghosery running so maybe the ads were not allowed to start.

You could be right. My wife runs AdGuard and was able to get on without any issues. I don’t but never even thought of that.

I remember those!

And then we got a Hayes 300 baud Smartmodem…and eventually 56k. Oh, the things you could do with such speeds.

Well, until someone picked up the phone and you got kicked off.

Memories…
