Obnoxious Loud Music
Hey, I'm sure this topic has come up before. Are others irritated by the proliferation of boats that play loud music from their boats? And it is not just the wake boats. Boats come through the channel with ear splitting decibel levels. Just so a couple of people on a boat can enjoy their music at the expense of perhaps scores or hundreds who might like to have a conversation, listen to the waves, or relax on their anchored boat having a picnic.
Now...before the Live Free or Die motto gets thrown in my face, freedom comes with responsibilities. And before someone tells me to go back to Massachusetts I will put forth that my family was in the Granite State in the 1700's. And people are tired of the Live Free or Die motto being bandied about to justify rude, selfish, and inconsiderate behavior. This seems to be a reflection of the general deterioration in manners and empathy that we see all about us these days. The lake was NOT like this in the past. Your thoughts? What to do? |

My boss used to say that 95% of our department's problems were caused by 5% of the people. I see a parallel here.

We live in a noisier world. Chainsaws and leaf blowers instead of hand saws and rakes. Sixteen speakers for your car radio or boat. Music, in particular, has grown continually louder as electronic amps have gotten bigger. Does this mean younger generations are getting hard of hearing at age 30 instead of age 65? Certainly, bars and restaurants are noisier than they used to be, and there is almost always somebody 3-4 rows behind me on the plane who I can hear distinctly, talking constantly, oblivious to his/her noise level. Fortunately, we're not bothered much by boat music. The folks who anchor in front of us are pretty far offshore and don't play music (or other group noise) that we can hear.

To the OP, be happy with what you have. There are many that would give everything too have a place on the lake. Chill, those that annoy you they will all be gone in a few weeks.

I am happy with what I have and I know how fortunate we are to live on the lake. It's just too bad as sunset said, that others are not as considerate as they could be.

To be sure I am quite happy with what I have. But that is not the point. People need to be more considerate.

Yes...But no.
We need to be tolerant of those with different beliefs, backgrounds, practices, values...whatever. Live and let live. But we do not always need to be tolerant of bad or rude behavior. Sometimes it's better to speak up and say no. |

Bad or rude behavior about something is simply one's opinion. Loud music might be something you do not like and think it is bad behavior, others like it. Everyone needs too chill.

Yes indeed. One has a choice to follow a Zen like approach. Kumbaya, "be one with your environment".
I am aware of a different local situation occurring where the people living in the areas unexposed to a major noisy nuisance made the same tolerance recommendations to those who were exposed to the brunt of the situation for hours on end. Despite all nearby neighbors petitioning against what was affecting their neighborhood, others from miles away, totally unexposed to the noise, would chime in with the hackneyed "I thought this was the Live Free or Die state". The neighbors close to the nuisance, it appears, have now prevailed. It's easy to tolerate and understand little kids having fun in the water for example. This is something totally different. Perhaps a few understanding, considerate and empathetic adults will read this thread and say "hey, maybe I didn't understand how disruptive this really is". Our son does NOT play music in the boat as he was brought up to respect the feelings and concerns of others. He "TOLERATES" the need to be a good neighbor. Which was my point in starting this thread. To help people understand that their behavior has consequences that are more far reaching than the perimeter of their boat. Yes, tolerate young kids playing in the water. A boat playing heavy metal music at full blast while slowly traversing the area is another situation altogether. As far as "Chill, those that annoy you they will all be gone in a few weeks" ...so too will the summer fade away. We all endure the cold winters, and we too look forward to those fleeting warm days spent outside with friends and family. Tolerance is a 2 way street. |

Well said. As above, tolerance is a 2-way street. Not everyone has the same critical thinking concerning Live Free or Die. As we have seen.

I feel like I post this same thing every year: my father taught me that "your freedom ends at my nose."
The moment one's music is loud enough to interfere with other people's experiences, it's too loud. I don't understand why that is a difficult, or polarizing, concept. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

But The NHMP Requires Whistles for Emergencies?
Ever notice the "music" is terminated when a "wake-setter boat" returns to their fallen surfer?

It's the world we live in
There is no sense in getting upset over other's inconsiderate/inappropriate behavior. The die is cast. We have raised a generation plus of people who care more about themselves than for others. Loud music is but one example. There are many others. Just last week we were at Saratoga with my son and his wife and her family, and we were sitting on the park benches watching and listening to the races. It's pretty important to be able to hear the broadcast since late minute scratches and keen insights are announced. The picnic table behind us was BLASTING music I didn't particularly care for, too loud to hear the broadcast. My son wanted to say something, and my advice was to not bother, it would only result in unpleasantness. When I'm the voice of reason, something is wrong! Anyway, we dealt with it, although it was very annoying!

South Pacific in New Hampshire...
Presently, it's 4 o'clock, overcast, two motionless boats, and quiet.
I'm relaxing to the sounds of ocean surf on the shoreline. (Which is something you can't get in Idaho). Where the waves originated, IDK.

Wake-Surfers Especially, Take Note...
While searching for answers to migraine headache "triggers"--which include florescent lights, LED lights, lightning, caffeine and MSG in foods--I came upon this passage:

tubing at night?
ApS asks "OK to go tubing in the dark if my navigation lights are on?"
This Coast Guard information table, Water Skiing Table 4.1, shows water skiing in New Hampshire is prohibited after sunset and before sunrise. The chart shows this is the rule in every state except for Alaska, Mississippi, and the unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico. http://www.uscgboating.org/regulatio...p?id=17&title= So, what about tubing? Does the same rule apply and prohibit tubing at night here in New Hampshire same as for water skiing? Anyone know?
