Default Ice Report Gilford Area 1-18-13

For those interested...

Went by the Glendale docks this morning and it looks like it’s just starting to skim over but still open water all the way out past Lockes Island.

There are a couple bob houses in Smith cove by Fays. No idea how much ice is there but would guess 5"-6". (Please check before venturing out!!)

Saunders Bay / Gilford beach is froze about 200 yds out. Definitely not safe yet. No bob houses on the ice or on shore.

Majority of the lake is still wide open water. I think by next weekend with this cold weather we have, the entire lake will be locked in but not safe anywhere in the wide open areas.

Here is a shot this morning from my web cam on Welch…

Be careful and check the ice first before venturing out anywhere on the lake!!

Dan

Default High winds forecast this weekend.

Keep in mind they have been talking high winds for this weekend. Hopefully not after this weekend though because that is when the real cold starts before the next warmup or moderation as they call it now.

I was hoping to come up the weekend after next to get some fishing in. My cottage is between Dockham Shores and the Governors Island bridge. I hope it will be safe there after the predicted cold snap.

There are some islands of ice starting to form out in the open areas and broads. The wind has been very light today and it was a perfect day for the ice to form just needed it to be a little colder! The somewhat mild temps tonight (29 degrees) won't be enough to do much. Let's hope for the wind to stay mild and cooler upcoming temps to lock her in!

The Glendale dock area just barely skimmed over last night. With any luck I'll at least get the bob house at least out on the ice next weekend.

Keeping my fingers crossed.
