Default Community Theater

I know this is a niche area, but I've done a little thread searching and have seen some posts in this subject area. I'm confident that there are some theater people on this site who may be able to shed some light.

As I've said earlier, my wife and I are planning our move back to the Lake in the near future. (actual date still up in the air). We will be moving to the Alton Bay area. Our shared hobby (some think obsession) is Community Theater.

I've done a lot of searching on FB & the Web for active theaters in the area. I've noticed some of the groups (by looking at how often their pages are updated) look like they might no longer be active. Then we see other groups that look like they may be "professional" only.

Would love to get some personal perspective from some theater folks that might be able give us some insight as to groups that are open to new members.

We are really looking forward to the move and though there are many things we will miss here, besides family and friends, we worry that we may miss our beloved hobby.

If you are involved and would be willing to share, we would love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Marty & Cathy

I am not involved but I know people who are and "The Village Players" is a group in Wolfeboro that I am sure you would enjoy. They are very active.

Default Two theatre groups

So nice to see this question being asked!
Check out the Streetcar Company (oldest theatre company in the Lakes Region)
http://www.streetcarcompany.com and also The Winnipesaukee Playhouse
http://www.winnipesaukeeplayhouse.org.
Enjoy!

There are lots of groups in the area! In addition to those already mentioned, there's also Franklin Footlights, Pittsfield Players and ETC in Plymouth.

We at The Winnipesaukee Playhouse produce professional, community and youth productions. Our very active community theatre group is called the Winni Players. They produce 3-6 productions of various sizes throughout the year. We'd be happy to give you a tour of our facility when you are next in the area. Please email lesley@winniplayhouse.org.

Default Community theater

Rochester isn't exactly "Lakes Region", but the Rochester Opera House has a very active program of both professional groups (mostly singing groups) and youth performance groups (summer theater-camp type programs).

They have a web site at www.rochesteroperahouse.com if you are interested.

just a ways "up the street" in Sandwich, ..." Advice To The Players is a unique company of theater professionals, enthusiastic community members and energetic teens that has been performing Shakespeare and offering workshops in New Hampshire's Lakes and Mountains Region since 1999. "

Default Interlakes in Meredith

You can also check out interlakestheatre.com. They have a number of productions that at the high school in Meredith. My cousin was accepted as an intern while she was in the theater program at Syracuse. They have a mix of professional, student intern and others included in productions. People have already mentioned Winnipesaukee Playhouse which has a brand new theater and wonderful productions as does the theater in Wolfeboro. There are lots of opportunities.

Thanks so VERY much. Great to hear about all these opportunities. As we both have been so heavily involved in Theater all these years, if nothing else, it will be great to still see good theater. (and maybe still participate )
