I had some old photos fall off a high shelf yesterday. There was some interesting Weirs and lakes region history in them.Name: 31221101.jpg

Picture 8 (down from top) Looks like Center Harbor. Lavinia's and the corner at Bean Rd? Love these. I love that the Mount and Weirs pictures are true testaments to "the more things change, the more things stay the same"!

Are these original photos on photographic paper? If so, you found a treasure.

Yes PJARD, they are on photo paper. They would have come from a photo shop I was working in when it was closed for good.

Only one picture had a date on it but I don't know how accurate. It is hand written in pencil and says Sept 27 1888. I would guess these came from glass negatives.

The second to last picture is Opechee at the bottom and Paugus Bay near the top. The golf course looks larger than it is now.

Default Hisorical Society

I hope you share the photos with the local historical societies. The picture of the two steamers is very interesting.

I love the first picture. Mt. Washington at the Weirs dock with the Governor Endicott waiting. Plus three small steamers in the foreground. This picture is almost identical to an old colorized postcard I have seen. The quality is excellent.

The pic of "Lady of the Lake" is a real keeper. Vera's Diner? Great old pic!
Thanks so much for posting these!

Default Great Photos and a suggestion

Love the pictures and like so many others, would love to know where and when.

When you save the pics to a folder, rather than leave it as "1234567.jpg", put a simple tag as the file name; ie Mt Wash Weirs, Lady Lake and Endctt.

By doing so, those of us looking at the pic can run our mouse or pointer over the pic and see the title. Not a lot of info, but a little is better than none.

Thanks for your hard work in scanning the pics, and posting them.

Good point Upthesaukee. I am used to making things easy while scanning and not thinking of who will see them. Many thanks.

Default Pic

I think the 4th one down is the Old Steam Boat Landing on Long Island. The two houses were used as ice houses and lugage storage on the way up to the Inn

What is the building that looks like it was in a fire with the windows broken and frozen spray from the fire hoses?

The burned building I believe was the Shangri-La in the Weirs and which was rebuilt.
