The first tournament is the annual PHC LaBatts Pond Hickey Classic 1/31 to 2/2

https://www.pondhockeyclassic.com/newengland

Second is the first annual Barstool Sports Pond Hockey Tournament

2/21 welcome party and 2/22 tournament

The PHC is the much larger tournament

The original one brings big money to the area. Lago's sets up a bar right on the ice and one of the bartenders told me they do about 15-20K a day just at that outdoor bar.
It remains to be seen how the smaller one does but I've heard good things about Barstools.
I'm wondering if they are going to tear everything down for the Ice fishing Tournament and then put rinks back up or just leave some set up from the first tournament? If that's the case I'm sure some of the fisherman won't be too happy if a rink is on their favorite spot.

Since the two tournaments are run separate and the Derby is in between I’m sure they will not be using the same set up for several reasons. The Barstool is much smaller, they are 4 weeks apart and would have to be maintained for various weather plus the derby is a huge earner and I’m sure the town doesn’t want to annoy the long time derby participates

Probably going to be just as much work making smooth surface ice rinks over holes and trash in the ice after the ice fishing tournament.
I would think they would have the same company that runs the first one also running theirs.

These are privately run completely separate tournaments. PHC and Barstool do these tournaments on their own there is no relationship between them and each have their own people setting up. They do not use outside contractors to prepare the ice surface

I'll admit I don't know much about Barstools but Scott Crowder runs a pretty good tournament that just seems to be growing bigger every year.

I don't know much about Barstool either but my college granddaughter tells me it's really big with the college kids and she wouldn't be surprised if Meredith is more than busy.

With a younger crowd drinking I'm sure the police will be busy also.

Default Thank you

. . . . . for the information.

We hope the weather and ice conditions make for good tournaments. It's fun to see crowds having good times at the lake in the winter.
Surely the inn-keepers agree.

Why would you say that? Do you really think the 20-30 crowd drinks more than the 30-50 crowd?

Let’s not put negativity into these events that bring in big dollars to the area in the off season that are much needed and appreciated by the local businesses.

I would say the 50 to 65 gang is head and shoulders above them all. No bud lights here, wine and whiskey all day everyday

I wouldn't say they drink more but they are much more unruly than the 30-50 crowd.

Idiots exist at every age. Hockey has a totally different ethos than other sports, however--it is at once both a finesse and goon sport. But, more than any other competitive event, what happens on the ice stays on the ice.

That being said, I care less about excessive celebration than I do taking care of the lake. I'll take a dozen brawling hockey goons leaving behind sweat over a hundred peaceful fishermen leaving behind trash and wood.

I have some friends coming up to Meredith this weekend. The Facebook page lists some changes that have been made due to the weather.

Anyone have any last minute information? How are things looking?
