Default Sunday Morning Post...Card 12-29-2019 Sophie C

Where is the Sophie C?

in more ways than one:

Where is the Photo Taken From ?

What is the current state of the Sophie C?

I saw it a few months ago and she's looking good.

Personal note: I believe the Sophie C has the best sounding air horn, the memories that sound created.
If that boat was scrapped id be sad to see it go.
sorry for the late post (Sunday brunch postcard)
Mike

Default Where-o-where?

Looks like she is just above the northeast end of Bear Island.

Upon further study, perhaps she is about to land at the Weirs. The Spindle Point lighthouse may be visible in the background. ⚓️

Default It's looking "NE"-ish

Mt Chocorua is in the background. Center Harbor would be NW

Ok I have figured it out.
there are few good hints posted here in the comments.

Mount Chocorua is correct.
Facing NE is correct.
Center harbor is not in the image. Neither is Bear Island and it was not taken from Bear island.
And I hate to admit it but my father guessed it and proved it to me.

Default Mid-late 50's?

This is before they put a dinghy on the roof instead of the life raft. Also before chairs were added to the roof. So, in those days, she mostly ran out from the Weirs, around Bear and Welch and back to the Weirs. So far, so good. But it looks like there are two deck hands ready to handle lines for docking, and she is not moving at any speed. But the deck hands are on the port side, and I can't recall anyplace she docked port to the dock. In fact, in those days she rarely docked anywhere except the Weirs, starboard to. In the early days, before the Mount got post war engines, she would have docked in Wolfeboro, but the presence of several larger boats in the scene makes me think it was way after that shuttle service. Was there a time when the Sophie went to Meredith? Just can't make sense out of deck hands on the port side.

"Just can't make sense out of deck hands on the port side."

I agree and honestly didn't notice that until you mentioned it.

Default photo credit

Well than it appears the weirs beach website owes credit. Unless they have done so properly. I just didn't want to copy and paste something from someone else website.

Nice image nice effort.
