Garbage Disposal Leaking ?

My Garbage Disposal appears to be leaking out of the Red Reset button on the bottom of unit, At least, I believe that's where I think the leak is coming from ?

Disposal is at second home, and not there often, will continue to monitor....

not really supposed to have water mixed in with the electricity. Or, is it leaking up higher and dripping down and around?

beat deal on a new one I have found anywhere. I have installed these in two houses of my own and a couple more for friends.

I could be wrong but it may be easier (and cheaper) just to replace the old disposal with a new one.

Whenever I replace one I now always use either a 3/4 horsepower or a full one horsepower model. Makes a huge difference in overall use of the unit. I am not sure why they bother selling 1/2 horsepower models anymore.

Were it mine I would check for tightness on the dishwasher drain hose, disposal outlet and the mounting gasket at the sink.

If the problem persists then replace the unit.

Just an FYI, If you replace it yourself and you have a dishwasher, don't forget to poke out the plug in the dishwasher inlet.

Do it yourself? If you have a handy friend to help, you can squeeze a half-hour job into two beers and 90 minutes.

Unable to muscle a replacement disposal up and into the old, existing collar attached to the sink while you lay on your back under the sink?

Try using that scissors jack from the trunk of your car to raise and position the new disposal into the old collar, just right, so it can be secured tight into place.

Hi! I’ve had a similar problem with my garbage disposal before, and in most cases, a leak from the bottom, especially near the red reset button, usually points to a failing internal seal or gasket. When those wear out, water can start leaking through, which sounds like what you’re dealing with. Unfortunately, these kinds of leaks often mean the disposal unit is nearing the end of its life.

Sadly, like most consumer goods these days, a garbage disposal is built to a price rather than a quality point; and is not repairable.
Toss it and get a new one.
