Apple Picking??

Apple hill Farm in Concord opens this weekend. They are one of my favorites in the area. Also they have raspberry picking which I love!

Butternut arms ibn Farmington (Rochester) on Meaderboro Road has been open for all fruits since June. They have all types of apples. Call 335-4705 for a schedule of their picking for the day.

Appleview Orchard in Pittsfield is opening today. Very family-friendly and they have great apple fritters. (Big ol' piece of sin!)

It's off Cherry Valley Road on the way to Gunstock. If you are coming from the Alton side it will be on the left before Gunstock. If you are coming up from the Gilford side (going past Cat Path, one of the BEST road names EVER

) it is after Gunstock and on the right. They usually have a huge flag out at the end of the road.

Stonybrook, in addition to having great apples, is a very pleasant place to pick. It is at the end of Glidden Road, a dead end road at the base of the Belknap range. We will get some macs now and some cortlands later (apple pie).

As noted Glidden road is off of Cherry Valley Road, about 2 miles east of Gunstock (about half way between Gunstock and the 11/11A intersection in West Alton). It is about 3 miles from where I now sit to apple picking

should the rain ever stop.

I believe Acton Maine has a couple spots.. just after Wentworth cross route 16

The best one that I know of is Smith's Orchard on Route 109. I used to work there when I was in school. They have ice cream, a gift shop, and there used to be a great little restaurant on the property - The Potting Shed. I agree on Smith's. During harvest time they have great haytype rides into the orchards for those that want to PYO and a wonderful selection outside of the gift shop (which also now has a breakfast/ lunch shop inside as well)
On week ends they also have home baked pies and other assorted treats including fresh cider.
I make it a point every fall to go and buy several bags of apples of which I bring back to CA.
Also is a very scenic ride from Wolfeboro.

We picked some Macs at Stonybrook today. The trees are loaded and the Macs are just about at peak perfection. So if you are a Mac fan, time to get out to your favorite PYO orchard.

Up here Cortlands (apple pie) are about 2 to 3 weeks away.

We went to a farm in Wolfeboro and the apples were GREAT! Trees were FULL and I mean full of perfect sized apples, and not a spot on them! I can"t remember the correct name (Someone help me out here) it's something like Duyvauls..but (heading out of town) go up past the hospital and the new school, you will come to a (sort of) fork in the road. Turn left onto "Pleasant Valley Road," and just stay on it and follow the apple signs. (It's about 2 miles down that back road, on the right hand side...look for a dirt drive with a small white sign). Giant fresh peaches as well, and squash and tomatoes. This was our third year going here and never disappointed. Beautiful Mum's too!

I believe it's DEVYLDER'S. We were there yesterday for the first time. Beautiful apples and peaches, baked goods, gorgeous mums, all kinds of veggies, pumpkins, cider. Small, no big crowds of people. LOVELY SPOT!

It is Devylder's. We went there too, yesterday and got a bag of apples. We didn't pick though I would have like to. We got cortlands and they are absolutely delicious.

Stonybrook started picking Cortlands over the weekend. We picked a half bushel today, $17, had apple pie this evening.
