Very sad news — Dennis Devylder has passed away

We were among the many in and around Wolfeboro who were friends as well as customers; in fact, if you visited Devylder's Farm frequently you couldn't not become a friend of Dennis. Along with other neighbors, we looked forward to seeing him as much as getting our produce, homemade pies, and other goodies on our almost daily visits.

Although, fortunately, the farm will continue to run in what appear to be the very capable hands of the folks who own Branch & Bloom, with the super Cindy staying on as manager and other fine staff also remaining, Dennis will be greatly missed.

Obituary
Wolfeboro, N.H. - Dennis Arthur DeVylder, aged 66, passed away on March 14, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with diffuse large b-cell lymphoma.

Dennis is survived by Karen, his best friend and wife of 44 years, his daughter Anna Hersey and her husband Matthew Hersey of Hingham, Massachusetts, and his son Kurt DeVylder of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He also left behind his brother Edgar DeVylder of Stamford, Connecticut, his brother Robert DeVylder of Cheshire, Connecticut, his brother David DeVylder of Cheshire, Connecticut, his brother Thomas DeVylder of Cheshire, Connecticut, his sister Lillian DeVylder Moore of Clinton, Maryland, his sister Eileen DeVylder Meier of Greer, South Carolina, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar P. DeVylder and Lillian (Cordett) DeVylder, of Cheshire, Connecticut, his niece Ashley Pflueger of Sarasota, Florida, and his nephew John R. Moore of Jacksonville, Florida.

Dennis was a dedicated and loving father and husband. His family was the center of his world. There was nothing that he would not do for them. He was an excellent chef and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Aside from his family, he treasured the family dogs and his antique vehicles. He especially enjoyed his 1953 Mack B-20, which his grandfather purchased new for their family farm.

Dennis was a hard-working and successful entrepreneur. A third-generation farmer, he and Karen moved their family to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, where they operated DeVylder Farm and DeVylder’s Community Market. Dennis took great pride in his business pursuits, and especially loved his farm. He cared deeply for his customers, who became like an extended family to him. He was a large presence in the Wolfeboro community, and was known for his generosity and kindness.

Dennis was greatly appreciative of the support he received from his family, friends, community and his caregivers at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Arrangements – Funeral services for Mr. DeVylder will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, with the funeral procession leaving the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street at 11:30 a.m. and proceeding to St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St, Cheshire, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Cheshire. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until departure. The name DeVylder certainly is familiar to the residents of Pleasant Valley Road and most Wolfeboro shoppers.

For a few years, DeVylder’s Community Market was located in the present-day Harvest Market store. (Which is/was affiliated with Maine's Hannaford supermarket chain).

Yes, it was a terrible week for Wolfeboro for deaths! I hope it just slows down a little for a while!!!
