Default Spectrum

Just had a very frustrating conversation with Spectrum. It took 20 minutes to cancel my service. The person would not listen. My plan is to go with a fiber company in the spring. Are others in Moultonborough using a fiber provider yet or have information when fiber will become available?

We switched from Spectrum to Fidium in Moultonborough several months ago and have no regrets.

Now if you use the fiber company, you have to use a steaming company for TV or do they offer TV service also?

You might check the Fidium website for availability at your address. I just checked my former address on West Point on Long Island (MoBo) and it showed available.

https://www.fidiumfiber.com/

NH Broadband may also be available in the Sring 2025. The "boxes" are on the poles and Conexon (installer) said they should be "home installing' in the Spring, at least that is what I was emailed, here on the Neck road.

Spectrum, I believe, is the only provider, of the three fiber providers that also sells "TV" service. I'm using YOUTUBETV stream and am happy with it. Fidium has suggesstions on streaming services

Default Cable to Streaming Presentation

Without Spectrum, you have to find another streaming service if you want local TV channels live. Even so, in Carroll County, there may be a problem getting channel 9 out of Manchester. I've presented on this issue at the Moultonboro and Ossipee libraries. The slides are available on the Carroll County Communications District web site.

We have had Breezline (Old Atlantic) for almost 5 years now. Can't really complain about the speed or reliability but it was the only game in town where we are.

We pay $89 per month for unlimited 200MB service which again works fine but every year they raise the price as I think we started this journey ~ $55.

I see NH Broadband now has a special where you get 1GB service for $79 per month with 1st month free and no increases.

Questions

1. Anyone have any personal experience with the new NH Broadband internet service in the Meredith area?
2. Anyone reached out to Breezline in particular yet to see if they will match the deal before canceling service? Curious how they are handling the fact that a competitor is now in the area.

Something to think about is your use model when at your lake property. While moving this summer, I had a 4 week period where I was going to be living at the camp on the lake... Generally there is no need for internet at the lake, as when I need access I just use my phone as a hotspot. But this was going to be different, I would be there 7 days a week for several weeks.... and would also have to take a business trip, and didn't want to leave my wife with out access, as her plan didn't include hotspot functionality.

With that said I got a hotspot from Verizon and got the 150G Data plan.... It worked beautifully..... and for less then I would have paid for any other service... This solution also had the advantage that we could take it with us as we traveled to Texas, and lived in our RV, until we could close on our house...... I still have the hotspot and will use it when camping etc. or when the ISP at home fails... I was able to stream, etc. with out much trouble (except for the couple of days at the end of the cycle when we went over the limit)

This solution likely wouldn't work if your an online gamer, or have children that are active online...... but for watching some TV, and enabling me to work it did just fine.....

This post sounds like I could have written it. I'm in the same situation, tired of Breezline.

Default NH Broadband (NHECP)

We have had Breezeline for a million years and just got fiber from NH Broadband installed yesterday for internet and phone. It seems to be working at least as well for a lot less money, but be aware that they are a much different sort of service. Their contractor comes in and installs it and leaves. There is no explanation of how to use any of its features (if it has any) or how to set anything up. As far as I know, there is no technical support or literature. No email address. No voicemail. No remote access. No phone number to call if you have questions. So if you, like I, are not technical, it might not be a good option. Breezeline is tough to reach and deal with, but at least there is someone to talk to if you wait long enough. How often did Breezeline have to send a bullet to fix my modem and who do I call if I need that now? I have not terminated with Breezeline yet and will keep it as a back-up for a few weeks to make sure this works for us.

My neighbor switched to Fidium.
Additional charge for TV channels.
New modem.

All in all he/she is not saving any money whatsoever.

Here is another option. We were going to cut the Spectrum cord at the lake house as it was getting $$$, and we are only there 2x/month.
When I called Spectrum to cancel, the tech offered another option. We could turn in the cable box, stream via the app and save some $.
This would also allow us to stream ANYWHERE, any device.
So now we pay for streamed cable (is that a thing?) in NH but use the app at home in RI or anywhere with our devices.
So the end result is paying for only one service, which in our experience Spectrum is a pretty good service, and we canceled all other options in RI and NH. So it has been cost effective for us-and we can watch north woods law in RI!

Something to consider.

Probably a new user time limit lower price to catch customers.
Then price goes UP.

Both for Fidium and for YouTube TV.

After introductory price. The same as Spectrum. No gain.

Have had Fidium for a while now (as soon as it was available here) after using Spectrum for many years.

Fidium is "symetrical" for download and upload. I've had 1 Gig for both Spectrum and Fidium, and Fidium is consistenlly faster (by 100-200 Mbps).
Waiting to see if more Fidium subscribers will slow speeds and at what time of day.

Using YOUTUBETV for streaming.
