Fire and Stone out of Tilton has cleaned mine and done chimney repair too...good work but not sure how competitive their rates are.
This is the only time I have hired out a cleaning...now I have my own brush and fiberglass rod kit that works off a drill...not that bad of a job to do.

Default The Country Sweep

The Country Sweep (603-569-6498) out of Wolfeboro. Dan Richardson has an excellent reputation in the area. His service is very professional, prompt, clean, friendly, and competitively priced.

We don't use a wood stove and haven't had a chimney cleaned in years but I also
hear great things about Dan.

Agreed. We had him over to West Alton yesterday. The above comments are right-on.

Default Agreed

Last year, Dan was scheduled to clean our woodstove chimney. On the morning scheduled, we lost power, so I called to let them know (hard to vacuum with no electricity).
Dan said he could still get it done. After using the brush to knock the creosote down into the stove, it lands on a "blanket" in the stove. They disconnected pipe from the stove and carefully ladled the residue into a small bucket, using the draft in the stove to remove the ash from the air. Then wiped stove cleaned.

Know when I empty ah from the stove, I keep the ash bucket right at the door opening and most of the ash dust goes back into the stove from the draft.

Great job.

Dave

Ditto...and this is the time of year to get this task done. I'd check with Dan on just-how-frequently. (Every year seems wasteful).

I wondered if "the market" had come up with a chemical chimney sweep.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried it.

And, yes, there's a bunch of alternatives at Amazon :

https://www.amazon.com/CSL-Creosote-.../dp/B001EPRAGM

Four stars, but I always check the negative (1-star) reviews to watch for "issues". This item comes with a "use-by" marking that buyers should watch for:
https://www.amazon.com/CSL-Creosote-...ews-filter-bar

I usually get mine done every other year but I only use it on weekends in the winter and maybe go though about a half cord of wood. If you burn a couple cords or more a season you should probably be cleaning it every year.
