Default Boat grave yard?

Hi everyone,

For some strange reason, my father bought a cheap crappy used boat that he thought he could fix and use. It's been sitting in our driveway at the camp for 2 years now. Besides selling it (which I doubt is even an option... it floats, that's about it) where/how can we get rid of this thing? Any suggestions?

thanks!

Default What to do...

Put it out front with a free sign on it, someone will take it away.

Put it out on the front lawn and put a for sale sign on it. Someone will steal it.

This is making me chuckle. Said boat is right up the road from me and it is U - G - L - Y ! ! ! MLG....it's on a trailer, right? Maybe someone will steal it if you put a big sign "Please Steal Me"...otherwise.....let's push it down the boat ramp across from your camp and we can use it as a remote controlled launch pad for July 4th fireworks...then for a finale we'll just set it on fire and put it out of its' misery

Question Eye sore (One boat)

If it doesn't disappear during the summy months, maybe someone could speak to the highway department this winter and have the wing plow remove it. That would be better than mail boxes.

Talking Plant flowers in it

Why not make it a yard boat: partially bury it and plant flowers inside. At least it would improve its appearance.

If it is really ugly, put a sign on it saying "Classic Vintage Historic boat ~ Mint Condition" Then you can be sure someone will steal it.

(Said plow removed my mailbox this year. Now the box is next to a utility pole).

A recycler will pay for an aluminum boat. Could that have been an MFG boat? That would be fiberglass -- not recycleable.

I once lived in a large mostly-immigrant town where your boat problem would be solved by dragging it off the trailer onto a street late at night. (All identifications removed).

The town would pay a wrecker to haul it away.

Then the trailer would get sold.

Problem solved.

Default Cheap, Crappy UGLY Boat

I couldn't resist taking a shot as I drove by yesterday! I like the lawn ornament idea. Could we substitute it for a bath tub and put a madonna under it?

I beleive all of the below ideas are just fantastic as long as it's on your water way Mcdude as it is the closest and it's all down hill. It actually looks better in the winter months and the way the snow drifts all around it.

http://www.helpinghandsofamerica.org/main/default.htm

Worth a try... and perhaps a couple of $ as a writeoff..

Geesh, I almost hesitate to say this. The boat pictured above is better looking than the 14' Glastron I used as a kid on Winni. How about some charity for this hideous, errr, "charming" example of fiberglass flatulence. C'mon now, surely there's an ugly boat in all of our backgrounds.

I may be interested in your fathers boat. I would like to come up and take a look at it some weekend. Please contact me via email if you are interested.

Thumbs up Coast Guard boat may be next for MP?

Paugus Bay Resident that is an awesome and funny picture of the Coast Guard boat. Was the guardsman wearing a PFD?
The little egg-beater engine may not be enough to keep up with jetskis or high performance boats. Maybe that's what the ordinance is for - if you can't catch them shoot them. Maybe MP should get some of those vessels.

Many times I've seen MP with blue lights and siren chase after an errant jetski or high performance boat only to be outrun. MP eventually gives up and finds someone easier to stop.

Wonder how that little armed Coast Guard boat boat would handle the waves and wakes out by the Weirs on a busy weekend? Even if it didn't swamp it would make aiming that gun very tricky

How embarrassing!

I was thinking of doing some sort of viking funeral for it... but i don't think that's too environmentally friendly... Unfortunately, I'm still a kid (at 28) and the parents don't listen to me!!! Just trying to get some ideas! Maybe we can forge a letter from the association prez to tell him to junk it! I'm just worried someone will try to take it, and it will freaking fall on them! ugh...

Anyway, those of you nearby... I'm working on it!

I like the style of your boat, and Winnipesaukee-ers are coming into the cottage-rental season. (Rich and poor alike).

It's the concrete block and the rusty trailer that help make it look bad.

1) Spray-paint the trailer tongue "aluminum". ($4)
2) Cover the block with colored felt. ($2)
3) Take cleanser (or fiberglass cleanser) to a spot on the hull and deck. (To demonstrate that the finish can be restored). ($0)
4) Important: Clean the windshield! ($0)
5) Remove the tarp.
6) Put a "For Sale" sign on it. ($1)
(The trailer's worth $100+)

Last, this isn't an ugly boat.

At auction, my teenage zeal got me a bargain "Winner" runabout -- the first popular runabout in fiberglass. That was ugly (but popular).

That brings back memories. My first "closed bow" boat back in the early 60s was a 14' Winner Sprite, with a bench seat and fins! 33 hp and I was rockin

Default Ugly Yes, But

Heck, that bow mounted horn should add value! A little chrome polish and the shine will attract a buyer.

Don't be embarrassed! It has been a fun topic and you may have generated interest to get rid of it. Not to mention, you really do not have control over what your dad does in his own yard. My own father has had so many weird creative things going in our yard over the years. He has several garden tractors that he will fix some day, but are now beyond hope and lots of other strange stuff. It hasn't stopped people from visiting or socializing with us. Just remember you are among friends here and that little boat may have life yet. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Good luck.

Thanks Rattlesnake Gal... I feel much better! Who'd have thought my little post would be the most popular of all the boating threads???!!

Probably wouldn't handle the wakes too well but then again nobody but nobody is going to intentionally throw "him" a big wake I'm talking 1500' rule here ! As for aiming the gun you are correct. It's a pity the CG gets the 'hand me downs' from the rest of the armed forces. In the Navy the main guns are space stabilized.
