How is the skiing?

Waterville and Loon were supposed to open today. I wonder how many trails were open and how the conditions were. Although I have a season's pass at WV, I think that I will wait for more snow cover.

As of 11/22, Waterville Valley (see http://www.wunderground.com/ski/nh/w...le_valley.html), 3 lifts open, 10 of 52 runs open, base 6"-12", packed powder, only open on Sat/Sun.

Loon Mtn (see http://www.wunderground.com/ski/NH/loon_mountain.html) is 16% open: 2 lifts, 9 of 55 runs, base 18"-30, packed powder, open all week.

Go to each site and see the webcams. Loon Mtn looks pretty impressive.

Considering it felt like January down here in CT, I can believe the Ski season is OPEN in NH!

Time is nearly up to purchase the 'Threedom Pass'. Last year we posted about not getting it in time, so just a heads-up!

We were going to head up to Waterville this weekend, but couldn't buy tickets in advance online ($10 off), couldn't get anyone on the phone and the only prices we were seeing were full price ($65 each) -- so we passed. Full price seemed a little steep for the summit double and one top-to-bottom run. I also saw they had the lifts on wind hold Saturday morning.

Does anyone know if Waterville is doing early-season pricing?

Wildcat is shooting to open next weekend and Gunstock on the 5th. I love the folks at Wildcat (old time New England skiing). Their conditions report this weekend... Primary Surface: Grass. Secondary Surface: Dirt. That will change quickly.

Waterville is not close to 25% open.They report 40 acres open out of 260.That's about 15%.

I spoke with the Waterville ticket office this morning (finally!) and they're currently selling lift tickets at $49 pp vs. $65. She has no idea how long they will continue the reduced rate.

She added that daily lift tickets can't be purchased on the Waterville web site yet because they're not at full price.

I skied Loon on Saturday and it was wonderful! Now granted there were only a few runs open, but I figure I can only be on one at a time anyhow, so how many do I need?

I wish I had gone back today.

Wasn't Waterville 49 all last year? $65?? Not when that quad is closed half the time. We used to do the Threedom but they got pricey too! Maybe I'm just cheap...I mean frugal.

Believe that both the WV quad and high country slo-lift were closed all day on Sunday due to high winds. Waterville Valley....aka...Windyville Valley!

Today, Tuesday, the plows are out scraping the roads and so far about one-two inches of wet, slushy snow has fallen. Could be a little more up on the ski slopes as they are higher up on the hill?

WV .... over 80 years old?...it's only $25. I know an 83 year-old who's a terrific skier.....cannot hear too good...but skis like Bode Miller.

WV ....value pass....$469....no Saturdays or holidays.....just the ticket.

Paid $475 for my everyday Cannon pass.Much better ticket.This weekend I'll being putting the first 3 days of my needed 8 to pay for the pass.All free skiing after New Years.

Waterville pays lift attendants, ski lodge workers, snowmakers and ski instructors about $8.00/hour. I hear that Cannon's empoyees are much better paid at about $12.00 - 14.00 plus benefits as they are State of NH employees.

That's probably the reason why Cannon's employees are older, more intelligent, and have a friendly & helpfull attitude.

Could be the reason why the 'Old Man of the Mountain' hung in there at Cannon for all those 12000 years, until, Governor Craig Benson (R) cut his benefits.....go figure.
