SnowMobiling on Lake Sunday

We're considering getting up early and riding up to the lake for one last ride tomorrow, Sunday (we were on the trails last weekend and they were toast then so not even considering that) and we were just wondering how the lake conditions were. Anyone out there today? Is it too slushy?? Any feedback would be appreciated..Thanks!!

We rode on the Lake form Moultonborough to Meredith today. It was fantastic!

Plan to do it agin tomorrow.

We were snowmobiling on the lake for several hours today in the area from Minge Cove in West Alton over to Jockey Cove in Wolfeboro and back. We then travelled from Minge Cove west to Ellacoya State Park, northeast to Welch, Sandy and Cow Islands, east to Winter Harbor, south across the broads to Rattlesnake Island and back to Minge Cove. Conditions over that entire area were very good, with the exception of Winter Harbor where we encountered slush in some places. The rest of the area we covered was in very good condition, with snow-covered solid ice.

Last weekend we encountered slushy conditions all along the northern shoreline of the lake between Sandy Island and Parker Island. The frigid temps. of this past week solidified that slush, and with the exception of the northern and western sections of Winter Harbor, the riding today was very good. (The eastern portion of Winter Harbor was fine.)

If you go out tomorrow, be mindful of the ice ridges. There is a big one that extends from Ellacoya State Park across the lake to Welch Island, and it then continues to Sandy Island and Cow Island. There is another ridge between the southeastern end of Rattlesnake Island that extends across to Moose Island. Yet another ridge extends from the shoreline just west of Jockey Cove in Wolfeboro toward Little Barndoor Island. Go slowly as you approach these pressure ridges and you will see tracks where other snowmobiles have found relatively flat areas to cross them. We had no trouble getting across them, but you do need to be careful.

We plan to go out again tomorrow.

It rained here last night and the temperature didn't drop below 37 degs. So the snowmobiling conditions on the lake could be a bit sloppy today.

We did an 80 mile treck on Saturday. Across the Ossipees on Rt 15 to the intersection of 16/25 and back across the Sandwich wildnerness, down Sandwich Notch road, across Squam Lake to Red Hill Rd, across the lakes to Fullers gas station, and through the woods to Greens Basin. The Ossipees were freshly groomed and the best I've ever seen. Much of the Sandwich wildnerness was fine, some of it was a bit rough. Sandwich Notch is fine. The lakes were solid - with no open water at the edges, but some slush ruts in spots. Red-hill road was totally bare and muddy. The trail from Fullers to Greens Basin was totally bare and muddy. Spring is coming quick.

Thanks for your replies! My husband and boys went up and said it was slushy but still rideable. My daughter and I choose to stay home and do a little mom/daughter shopping spree!! I'm not sure who had the better day.
