Default Marine Patrol On Lake Winnipesaukee

As we all know the marine patrol numbers are down. On Sunday we boated from Melvin Village to the Weirs, Lakeport and Meredith. We didn't see any marine patrol. I also spoke with one recently and he told that they won't be up in the Green's Basin area unless they have a call to go up there. Also due to the reduced numbers of MP's they will be trailering boats to several of the smaller lakes and one MP will be covering several lakes on a daily basis.

Saw the Marine patrol make a few passes in Braun Bay last weekend. I guess that is a hot spot.

Braun Bay and Weirs Channel are "low hanging fruit" (easy pickings) when it comes to spotting violations/hour without using much gas. I imagine it's very easy to keep busy as an MP and fill a log book with entries in either spot. Can't imagine much craziness happens up in Green's Basin and I can picture a supervisor asking "why did you go way up there to patrol?" It would be like running a speed trap on NH Route 118 instead of 101/93 in Manchester.

I saw my first MP of the season (other than at the HQ) on Saturday night around midnight. He looked like he was staking out that notorious danger spot, Smith Cove. We passed him four feet away in the narrow channel, didn't even return my hello.

I know if I wanted to catch some dangerous boaters that's where I would be, you wouldn't catch me wasting time over at the Town Docks, Weirs, or Naswa especially on Bike Week.

I have seen at least one Marine Patrol boat every day go between long Island and Moultonborough neck.

They will certainly go to the hotspots where tickets are easy....
