Default Moon Halo Tonight

There is a huge halo around the moon tonight. It is beautiful. Merry Christmas to all.

Default Saw it,

It's just starting to fade at about 9.45. It was the first time I ever saw such a thing. The moon and a single star and a perfectly circular ring. I tried to take a picture but I couldn't "zoom" out far enough to get it all in frame.

(Glad you posted, because know I know I'm not just "Seeing Things" Merry Christmas ! )

Beautiful moon tonight, with Jupiter right next to it. A pearl and a diamond.

The Moon with Jupiter just above. Hope the attachment works good enough.

I woke up briefly at 5:20 this morning. Turned out to be perfect timing. I was able to witness a beautiful moon set over the western horizon.

Ring around the sun or moon...means rain or snow very soon.

Default Ring around the moon.....snow soon

My parents always tell the story about how large the ring around the moon was on Christmas night 1947. Everyone leaving my grandparents' house commented on how eery it looked. The next day was the Blizzard of 1947 which dumped 26 inches of snow on the NY/NJ area. This snowfall held the record for northern NJ until 1996 when we had nearly 30" of snow in early January. Let's hope the Lakes region gets plenty of white stuff for all the sledders & skiers so they can make up for last winter.
