Happy Thanksgiving...2011

So...I guess we could go on and on, about all things "lakes region", that we are so very thankful for...so I thought it maybe it would cool if we take some time to really consider it a bit, and limit our list to only the top three.
Mine...in order.
3. I'm thankful for warm summer nights in Meredith, alone or with family/friends, with the Sox on radio, the fire burning bright, and the beer ice cold. Simply would not trade place with anyone in the world, when living those hours.
2. I'm thankful for long, lazy summer afternoons, anchored in Braund Bay, LI sandbar, or West Alton sandbar...with my nieces and nephews, sister and brother in law...rough housing with the kids in the water, throwing the frisbee, eating lunch, buying the kids ice cream from the barge, and simply relaxing on the boat. During those afternoons, there are simply no mortgage payments, no car payments, no home repairs to worry about, no "honey do" lists, no traffic jams... I wish the kids could stay young forever.
1. I'm thankful for another year of good health for ma and dad...dad has done battle with cancer twice now, and while it has slowed his step, he has won both battles. They have their camp 3 doors down from ours, and as the years move on, I'm thankful for every Saturday morning cup of coffee with them, and dad's early morning runs to get doughnuts for everyone (nobody tell him that noone really eats doughnuts anymore). The simple moments of spending time with them, and often doing nothing but talking, are becoming sacred ritual.
I'm so very thankful we are still able to gather as family...all three generations.

One more quick one...I'm thankful for ice cold Margs at Crazy Gringos on hot July days, when the temp is 90 plus.

We are thankful for the oppurtunity he had 5 years ago to buy a place on the lake. We have enjoyed every moment and have made great family memories to last a lifetime.

Every day is a good day to give thanks. Not just the days that we are blessed with on the Lake. So remember...

Yesterday is history.
Tomorow is a mystery.
Today is a gift.

That's why we call it the "present".

We are Great full for the beautiful place we live, and the friends and family's we share it with.

For the summer folks, who can't be this time of year, here is a picture from this morning, Thanksgiving Day, along the Gunstock River that flows to Winnipesaukee.

Yesterdays snow left us a "Crystal Palace" that opened this morning!

The river flows all along the border of our property and is beautiful in every season!

Last Thanksgiving my son and son-in-law, both US Marines were overseas.

We spent the day with our daughter waiting for a call from her husband or her brother, which never happen.

Today she and her husband will spend it in California where he is now stationed.

We are with our son in North Carolina looking forward to dinner today with him and some of his friends who could not make it home for Thanksgiving.

The sad part of today is that he has only been home from the war since late May (six months) and he has orders to leave on 27 December for Afghanistan, on an individual augmentation assignment as a company commander.

Today will be a special day as we give thanks for the safe return of both our men and the safety for our son as he leaves again for war.

Bless your whole family and there will be a special blessing said at our table for all servicemen and women and more especially for your son who will be leaving for another tour of duty right after Christmas.

The granite cross visible in the wonderful sunset photo taken by Bear Island South is located at the Camp Lawrence chapel on the southwest side of Bear Island. It was erected as a memorial to eleven year old Kenny Tinker who died of leukemia in the early sixties.

SteveA: Walking along the Gunstock River is always a favorite of mine. Especially across Cherry Valley from the back entrance.

This T-Day will forever be special as my daughter announced she is due to provide us our first grandchild next June. She walks in the house with a baby balloon. Still processing this info.

And, as my wife and I plan on leaving the state before Christmas to travel the country in search of our next landing place, We are revisiting many locations throughout the region and state that we have liked. Our "good bye tour" if you will.
