Default Roof shingle debris removal from island

Thinking about reshingling the camp on Rattlesnake island. Any insight to having the roofing shingle debris hauled away??

Thanks

We laid down tarps under the roof to keep ground clean and shoveled debris into trash cans lined with heavy duty plastic construction trash bags. Wheeled the cans to the dock and loaded the bags on our pontoon boat. Hauled them to the transfer station. The roofing debris is rated as demo when fee is calculated.

...... www.thebagster.com .... .... up to 3300-lbs debris waste ....... 800-1000 sq' old asphalt roof shingles ...... up to 47-sheets of drywall; 4x8x1/2" ......size of bagster; 4'wide x 8'long x 30"high ...... your bagster must be placed on your property for pickup, not on sidewalks, streets, or any public property, 18' overhead needed free of power lines .......$29.95 to buy the bagster at the hardware store or lumber yard for one time use, and something like $189. to get it hauled away by a Waste Mgmt truck with a high lift sky hook

..... yard waste like tree limbs and leaves may or may not be doable depending on zip code

..... big long list of what it will not take; no paint, no tires, no batteries etc, etc, etc, no, no, no

you could try one of the barge co.s to see if they can drop a dumpster (if you are on the flat side), or see if they will handle one of the bagsters for you.

As for handling the debris:

We worked down from the ridge with roofing shovels popping the old shingles off and doing our best to keep them whole. Have many rolls of duck tape. Make bundles as you go, wrap them up and toss them down. Then about 90% of the old shingles are in bundles, much easier to handle and to transport. It took 3 boat trips to get the bundles to Glendale for annual island cleanup day.

Well that plus installing the new shingles was enough fun to last a lifetime.

No extra charge for Governor's Island ...... still $189 for a WM pick-up .... to the Governor's .....

Waste Mgmt has a truck location in New Hampton, just up Rt 132 from the post office on Rt 104, near the state liquor store.

....for like $9.99, Walmart has 32-gal black vinyl trash cans with big handles and lids..... probably sturdy enough to haul old shingles onto a boat and to the transfer station ..... for that do-it-yourself island home owner..... plus Walmart has a $30 two-wheel hand truck..... a big sturdy one .....with good sized rubber tires
