Default Lost & found on lake

If you find a floating raft on the lake, do you have to call Marine patrol?

I don’t know if you have to, but you should. It’s a hazard to navigation and should be restrained. Rafts are supposed to be registered so the authorities can track down the owner.

Default MP Fast Response

The Marine Patrol picked up an expensive wakeboard that drifted against our dock on East Bear Island when we reported it last month. Give them a call. 🐻

Default Yes

If you find other's property, yes, you are supposed to report it. If it's a quarter on the street, probably not a big deal. If it's a duffel bag of money, it is a bigger deal and you could get in trouble for keeping it and not reporting it. Same thing with the lake - it is public property, but the stuff floating on it still belongs to someone else.

I found a piece of dock once. Tied it to a tree on my friends' property. Next time I came back the dock and my rope were both gone.

It was a good rope too.

We came across a Hobie Cat sailboat/pedal boat floating near mile marker 3 last Saturday night around 11:30 after going to weirs fireworks (which were cancelled). We called marine patrol and waited there for an hour for them to arrive so nobody hit it. Finally ended up towing it to Shep Browns and left it tied up there and called marine patrol to tell them where to find it. Hope the owner got it back.
