Lavinia's, and, though the menu doesn't look awesome, we've thought about going a few times. Problem is, every time I call to inquire about/make reservations, the person on the phone has been difficult and/or not personable. We've gone to Canoe and Bob House at least thrice because of it. Weird.

Default 3B's gone

We miss the Wednesday 3-B's special: a beer, a bourbon, and a burger for a fixed price.

Down load Open Table and make a reservation through them.

Lavinia's is becoming our go to for dinner. Burger is great, fish tacos are great, and risotto of the day has always been good.

We have had a couple of really good meals at Lavinia's. Their patio seating is nice. I've had the burger and the BBQ plate, both were good.

Default New menu items are awesome

Lavina's is our go to place as well... the new menu items are really good. Cioppino Pasta is excellent ... fried asparagus also really good. Fish tacos are the best in the lakes region. Have tried most everything and have never been disappointed. The chef and kitchen staff put out some really great dishes. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. If you haven't tried it you really should.

I want to thank all the people who have commented about Lavinia's. I always thought the place was an upscale dining establishment. After reading the comments I am thankful I never tried it. Don't need more diner food burgers tacos and beer. So thanks for saving me the time and coin.

LOL, that is what the posters bought, not only what Lavinias offer. I guess it is the "burger and beer" crowd that do the most posting

Default Never been either...But...

Doesn't sound like a place that serves cioppino pasta, fried asparagus , fish tacos, risotto is just another Lakes Region burger joint.

Having said that, I think if you dismiss a place because they have "burgers" on their menu, you've dismissed a lot of very good restaurants in the area.

Canoe has burgers... and HOT DOGS! (Sorry, I got a bit excited).

Lago has Kobe burgers.

AA reminded me of an interesting documentary called Sour Grapes, about a bunch of "brilliant" wine lovers who get duped by a kid who makes millions mixing and selling cheap wines. It's like high-end fashion: designed for superiority.

PS in response to above: it's not so much we've been put off by the reservation system as the attitude we've received when showing up and calling. Very...pompous and, clearly, we don't do pomposity.

I'm trying to picture AA's 4th of July menu. Obviously burgers, dogs and bbq
are out. Maybe pate? Marinated sea bass? Bet it was a real blast!

Lavinia's has been many things over the years as the Coe House, etc and others. A number of years ago, the interior was beautifully redone and the menu was quite upscale ( should add "for the Lakes Region" so I don't get hammered, although IMO upscale for anywhere.) The food, service was pretty high end. For whatever reason, it was sold a few years ago and the new owners son was the new chef. ( If you like these discussions, search the Forum for the old, pretty vicious thread).

Regardless, over the past 2 years or so, the menu is much more of a mixed bag. The intent was to provide good food at a price point that would make the restaurant more successful. In my opinion some of the offerings are better than others ( no surprise there ) and it is certainly eclectic with fancy dishes and burgers along with good pasta and really good fish tacos. The setting either inside or out is still lovely.

In summary, a pretty successful business plan. The restaurant is neither a burger joint nor haute cuisine. In an attempt to please everyone, I think they have done a pretty good job in an impossible task.

I have no connection whatsoever with the restaurant going back even to the Underground Railroad days.

The fish tacos are great but beware that the aioli is very verry spicy! We get the sauce on the side now. Bon appetit!

Default Lavinia

It's an uncommon name, I wonder if it's named after the 1st female serial killer? I believe she had some type of restaurant where she poisoned around 100 people.

The Lake Winnipesaukee Historical Society says you're right. Lavinia was also a Senter, probably the same family as Senter's Market -- I think now Heath's -- in Center Harbor:

I never call them. I use the app from my boat and the app tells you how many seats they have and at what time. Click click click drive around a bit, dock, walk and eat.

Went to Lavinia's again a few weeks ago. Great food! Consider them one of the best options in the lakes region.

Thumbs up lavinia's

Went to Lavinia's again last night. My daughter in law and I each had the cioppino with fresh pasta. Absolutely delicious. Lots of thumbs up!

We enjoyed dinner at Lavinia's on Tuesday, Aug 1st. Everything was great: food, service and setting. This was our first ever visit, but we will return again soon. It may not be fine dining, but it was exactly what we look for when having dinner in the lakes region.
