Default First threat of the season...gas the sleds?

I would love for this prediction to pan out and drop a foot of the white stuff here Wednesday into Thanksgiving.
Crossing my fingers for the first one to be a big one.

Default Great forecast, poor timing....

Could we wait a few extra days and have twice as much snow? We have folks traveling in from 3-4 hours away and if the forecast holds, turkey will be on the menu well into December.

Default From the National Weather Service in Gray ME

Long term outlook...not so good for snow in Lakes Region...more for northern NE:

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
LONG TERM MODELS ARE NOW IN BETTER AGREEMENT THAT A POTENT COASTAL
STORM WILL AFFECT NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND IN THE WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY
TIME FRAME. DUE TO THE TIMING OF THIS SYSTEM OVER THE THANKSGIVING
HOLIDAY BREAK... IF THIS DOES COME TO FRUITION WE EXPECT MAJOR
INTERRUPTIONS TO TRAVEL. PEOPLE ARE URGED TO GET TO THEIR
DESTINATIONS EARLY IF POSSIBLE. POPS WERE INCREASED BUT NOT OVERLY
SO TO MAKE ROOM FOR POSSIBLE MODEL FLIP FLOPPING.

LIGHT RAIN OR SNOW SHOWERS WILL BEGIN TO FALL EARLY WEDNESDAY
MORNING AS A STRONG WARM FRONT COMES ONSHORE. NORTH OF THE
FRONT... FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL BE IN PLACE ALLOWING FOR SNOW
TO FALL. AS THE FRONT WORKS ITS WAY NORTH... SO WILL THE WARMER
AIR ALLOWING SNOW TO CHANGE OVER TO RAIN. HIGH TEMPERATURES
WEDNESDAY WILL BE RELATIVELY WARM... WITH MOST LOCATIONS IN THE
UPPER 30S TO LOWER 40S EXCEPT FOR THE HIGHEST PEAKS. THIS WILL BE
A TRAVEL HAZARD ONLY IN THAT IT WILL BE A STEADY... PERSISTENT
RAINFALL ON A HEAVY TRAVEL DAY.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT RAIN WILL TURN TO SNOW AS TEMPERATURES DROP. SNOW
WILL CONTINUE TO FALL OVERNIGHT MAINLY IN A BAND CENTERED NEAR
THE COAST... WITH ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL IN THE MOUNTAINS. THE LOW
PRESSURE CENTER MOVES FROM LONG ISLAND TO NEAR PORTLAND THURSDAY
MORNING AND PRECIPITATION COMES TO AN END QUICKLY AS THE SYSTEM
MOVES EAST WITH A FEW LINGERING SHOWERS OVER THE MIDCOAST AND THE
NORTH. THE HIGHEST SNOW AMOUNTS WOULD FALL JUST INLAND FROM NEAR
FARMINGTON TO NEAR BANGOR LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING.

TEMPERATURES DROP A FEW DEGREES BEHIND THIS SYSTEM...BUT THE REAL
COLD AIR DOESN`T ARRIVE UNTIL A COLD FRONT PUSHES THROUGH ON
FRIDAY. THIS ALLOWS ARCTIC AIR TO SETTLE IN FOR A FEW DAYS.

Default Another update...still looking like a good one!

This update was just loaded. I like Bernie Rayno from AccuWeather. He explains his predictions and that allows a novice weather lover, like me, to learn a little bit.
I figured this was important for those planning to travel Thursday. I'd like nothing more than to eat my turkey in a plow...my wife does not share my holiday wish.

Like snow or hate it. This storm will provide a bunch of unexpected income for a lot of hard working people that depend on snow to carry them through the winter. This is good for them and also for the local economy. An extra pay check right before Christmas is always helpful.
White Gold!!!

Default It will be here soon!

From Accuweather:

...winter storm warning remains in effect from 10 am this morning
to 7 am est thursday...

* hazard types...heavy snow.

* accumulations...8 to 12 inches of snow.

* timing...snow will begin wednesday across southern new
hampshire...and by wednesday afternoon across the rest of new
hampshire and western maine. Snow will become heavy for a time
wednesday evening...before tapering off early thursday.

* impacts...snow will cause treacherous road conditions on a very
busy travel day. Snowfall rates of over 1 inch per hour are
possible. Additionally... Heavy wet snow near the coast may
cause scattered power outages.

* winds...north 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

* visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times.

* temperatures...in the lower 30s.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...
Food...and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
