Default Fish Finder for Ice Fishing

Any thoughts/recommendations on these units? Are they worth it or just a gimmick? Could they be used in the spring/summer off the boat?

Thanks.

I use my Lowrance HDS-7 in both summer and winter. I just use their ice transducer ("iceducer") in the winter. I have a mount on both my Polaris Ranger and my ATV and plug it into a 12V outlet. It works very well and has stood the test of time in the coldest of weather! The clarity and detail is amazing.

If your looking for a more portable unit, there are many brands of flashers out there that work well. Vexillar is one respected name that comes to mind...
