Vintage outboard found
Sorry all I posted the nifty grinding wheel I found under "Wreck of the Dago"-you can see pictures there.
About 3 weeks ago I found an old outboard in about 35 feet of water near Mark Island. Not in terrible shape, light metallic blue/gray in color, classic 2-blade prop maybe 7" in diameter. Should I recover it? Does this have any value to a collector for example? I would speculate prob. from the 1940s??? Maybe 1950s??? I know from recovering weapons we leave them in the water until we're ready to turn them over. Removing an object from the water can be very bad for the metal so I left it in place for a future recovery if there's a point to it. |

usually if you sink anything that runs, you have to get it running again with-in 24 hours of taking it out of the water. other wise rust will begin to form and it will be very difficult to try and get running.
it should be fine when its in the water. if you want to remove it from the water and try to get it running, not too difficult. i'll gladly give it a shot.
