Mount Washington

The wonderful dry air has been great from pictures of Mt. Washington from the Gilford side of the lake.

Here's just one of the pictures I've taken from a couple of different spots. Didn't want to fill this post with pictures, so I posted the rest in the Photo Gallery.

Awesome photo! But, I'm confused. I have never seen Mt. Washington that "big" and so detailed (you can see the towers on top!) from the lake. Am I missing something?

I used my longest lens at it's maximum. (Canon EF 70-300mm IS) To steady the shot, I had it on a tripod and released the shutter with a cable release to avoid any "shake". The air was very dry at the time so there was very little distortion.

Looks like a combination of a good telephoto lens or zoom coupled with some serious cropping. Looks like it may have been taken along Scenic Drive, possibly Lincoln (?) Park at Belknap Pt. The islands are well across the water, and it looks like Nipple Rock in the middle of the pic.

You got it right. The crop was actually fairly tight, I cropped it to 7x5, took out some of the left, right top and bottom sides of the original, and sharpened the focus and colors a bit. Here is the original picture. It was taken on Scenic Drive about half way between Belknap Point Hotel and Lincoln Park.

My Dad would probably laugh at me for not knowing this (he was in the photo buisness his whole life) but how do you get the immediate fore-ground (the lake) to look "natural" and then have the mountain so close? It almost looks like the mountain doesn't belong there
