Exclamation Help Needed on New Lake Links

I am now running a new Links system I could really use some help transferring all the links from the old system to the new one. There was no way to do it automatically and there are about 1000 links that still have to be moved. If some members could take the time to move just a few it would be very helpful.

To move a link from the old links listings click on it to make sure it is valid and then copy and paste the URL for the site into the "Submit a Link" form in the new system. Edit the name and description and make sure the category is correct. I will review and clean up any problems during the approval process.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Don,

I tried moving a link and this is the error message that I got:

" 1. The URL (http://www.amesfarminn.com/) is already in our database. We're sorry, but duplicate URL's are not allowed. Please click here if you would like to view the existing entry for this link."

When I look in the Lodgings category, Ames Farm Inn is not in there, so I'm uncertain as to why I'm getting this message. I tried it 3 times with no luck.

If the link has already been listed in any category you'll get the "already in database" message. Just skip that one move on to the next one.

Don -

Why couldn't you just "view source" from the old links, isolate the code for each link in a list, and then submit it into the new links via the code for that page? It seems like it's set up pretty similar... they're both HTML based, right? Just curious....

That's really helpful if you do that.

Argie's Wife: The old links were stored in a text file and converted to html pages by a cgi script. The new links are stored in a SQL database along with other data and the thumbnail that the submission generates. Just moving the links from DB to DB wouldn't do it, the links need to be processed by the new system during submission.

Default Argie's wife?

I think I understand what Don wants. I am to go back and change the links that I have transferred to the "new" where the URL I posted said "old Thread" in the URL and replace them with a new URL that has a more direct URL for these sites? Right?

Seems like an easy job for perl. PM me if you like, this seems like a simple scripted operation.

Good morning Don, I have found some links that are no good, which is to be expected, but other links that are valid I am getting the message
"The URL you entered is not valid. Please make sure that you have entered a valid URL."
Here is one that is valid but I am getting that message: http://www.andrewtaylorhomes.com/

Glad I can help you out.

Default medical

all old links updated and submitted for approval
There are others that should be added to this list yet but were not in the old links. Will work on searching as time allows.

Default News and Guides are done

This is fun. I am seeing all types of sites that I never knew were there before.

Live Cams done too.

Default Don, are we all done?

I have been to several link headings, and I am seeing that these links have been moved. Are we all done?

First a BIG Thank You to everyone who took the time to enter some links. You saved me a lot of work.

I just approved another group of links and I think we're in the cleaning up stage. Some categories are not complete and there are some links that came up as Invalid URL (even though they were valid) that I have to deal with.

This weekend I'm going to step through the old and new links systems to fill in any gaps. After that I'm going to begin work on the new Classifieds system!
