Maybe it's a different kind of senile and I posted on another thread... was a comment about a rather overweight topless protester at Weirs Beach! ;-)

Topless Sally's Gut
I remember that thread. In this case however, I thought you might be referring to the passage between Mark and Mink. Maybe we should have a naming contest? One of the few places on Winnipesaukee where you go between the two red top buoys.

Good question....been here for years and I have no idea if it has an official name. I have a suggestion... Charlotte, our beloved pit bull, loved everyone and would frequently go off on her own to visit many of the islanders. They loved her visits and looked forward to her showing up. I would get texts sometimes from folks asking why she hadn't been around to visit. 2 years ago, she got into some mouse / rat poison that somebody must have used while winterizing. The emergency vet was optimistic that we had caught it in time, but she passed away before the antidote could take effect. My vote for the new name is Charlotte's Gut... she sure spent a lot of time down there ! :-)

We have Sally's Gut, Becky's Garden. I'd go for Charlotte's Passage, so each name is unique.

How about "Flo's Folly", "Rick's Reef", or "Erin's Revenge"? When I was a kid, my great uncle had a camp on Mark just opposite the buoy. We'd fish off the dock in the channel and watch one Capt. Bonehead after another ground themselves on the wrong side of the buoy. Granted it's probably been 25-30 years since I've been there. Have people coming through there gotten any smarter?

it always seems to be different...some mornings I'm in the clear but I look over toward Governors and it's all fogged in. Other times the fog is all to the east or north.... yesterday it was all in Gilford!

When you pulling out Steve?….
I still have one boat in and will keep it in for another 3 weeks or so. Just waiting for some work at the camp to be complete then it’s coming out. Yup! Nice to have Glendale, the lake and the island all to myself! Dan

Today's lake level report... maybe 8 inches of water under the bow. Full lake touches the dock framing.

..... new overnight ice formed is not a serious problem.
You know there is never enough ice formed overnight to keep a motorboat trapped, somewhere. Most any motorboat can easily motor through one or two inches of ice at a slow speed like 5-mph and probably even up on plane at 25-mph. The vee hull zips through the ice like a knife and easily breaks it through when there is just one inch ice, no problem.
Cutting through the ice like that is a piece of cake.

Breaking ice
I, and a friend, also from Welch, stayed overnight once after Christmas. The next morning, Glendale was frozen over. A few turns around the bay created enough waves to break up the ice. This was maybe 1964, so no cell phones, radios, CB, etc. Foolish by today's standards.

It's crazy how low they dropped Winnisquam and how quickly it filled back up. Next thing you know I'll be plowing into submerged trees and guardrails...no, that'll be you! :-)

This year really flew by, didn't it! It was a tough season for boat issues for us. Our 20 year old pontoon decided to identify as a 3 cylinder midway through the summer. I called Kyle Cosselman ( he's been servicing the boats for years ) who's now with Beacon Marine. He grabbed the boat at Glendale and brought it to the shop. They told me in addition to needing a re-power, it also has some structural issues . After weeks of mulling it over, I decided to cut my losses and sell it. Kyle and Beacon couldn't have been kinder or more patient with me...they were great and I'll recommend them all day!
Our older Chaparal has been a nightmare for years with the way it's been running. Brought it to two different marinas, spent a lot of money, and was told many different things... it's as good as it's gonna be, it's old...sell it, etc. We actually started looking at new boats to replace it! A friend recommended we try Dockside Doctor, so I called and dropped the boat. Erich was very thorough and persistent and uncovered two main problems...2 of the injectors were clogged, and the ignition distributor was installed a tooth off ( stemming from the engine being replaced 7 years ago... reason distributor caps kept failing rapidly). I picked it up on completion, and it now runs perfectly, and was charged less than the other places who were basically throwing repair darts at it! I can't thank these two businesses enough and highly recommend them both! Sent from my Pixel 7a using Tapatalk

Thanks for sharing, Steve. Island living is always an adventure. It's nice to hear about local businesses who are worthy of praise. Details posted elsewhere over time, but a pat on the back to Miles Marine, Diamondshine and Hi-Gloss Boat Restoration.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We're very thankful that we get to live in one of the most beautiful places on earth for most of the year, and after having spent a few Thanksgivings on the island, with this weather coming in thankful that we left a little early this year. Nothing but rain expected in beautiful downtown Epping! Enjoy the day, behave yourselves ( I might ), and the way time flies by these days we'll all be back at it soon!
