Black Cat Island Bridge

Does anyone know the date the Black Cat Island Bridge was completed? Thank you in advance.

I know the island was sold in the 60s... 1972 will be my best thought for when they built the bridge but dont hold me to it.....

I believe it was 1966, I would have to check the family records. We were one of the families to buy a lot while the bridge was being built. I remember going down the dirt road to the bridge in mud season, taking a boat ride over to the island, walking around the island through the mud as my parents chose their lot. The sunset view was priority despite the prevailing northwest winds. We have never regretted it. My father always called it his best investment and that he should have purchased more lots. The price was under $10K!

sorry but i jumped off that bridge many times in the 70's i guess i'm a little too long in the tooth for that anymore. also dove long island bridge before it was re-done. fun times

Could you please give your name and complete address and an estimate of how many jumps? At $100 per jump and accrued interest, this would reduce the association dues this year.

I recall a house and land for $3,500.00 before the bridge was built. Anyone remember that long ago? The original homes were constructed on the east side of island.

As I recall one of the original buyers of a home before the bridge - refused to pay for the construction of bridge. There was a court case or something. House owner lost as I recall and had to pay a share of cost of bridge.

I also recall the original white house on island being torn down in sections and driven on flatbed truck to be reassembled someplace else. Don't recall where.

I received this aerial picture of Black Cat c1963 from Shore Things a few years back when I was working with DES to get a breakwater permit.

Some years back while looking through old deeds online, I came across an early deed for Black Cat Island.

That's so funny as I use to jump off that bridge with my friends who lived on Black Cat,three crazy brothers! It was around 1968-73.

Methinks that there is a number stamped into the bridge which should give an indication of when the bridge was constructed...

I remember riding on the bulldozer as a youngster probably 4 or 5 years old as my father whom worked for Ambrose Construction at the time was making the roads on Black Cat Island. All the time with my eyes wide open looking for the elusive "black cat".
