Default High Speed Internet

Are there any other High Speed Internet providers around other then Metrocast. Sometimes you just have had enough and need to go elsewhere.

Default Depends

That depends on where you live. Alton has Metrocast and TDS (formerly Worldpath). Also, it depends on what you call "hi-speed".

When I run speedtest.net on my pc and my laptop, I get around 6.82 on the downloads, which is better than the provider average and nearly at what would be the max (7 Mbps). I usually select Portland ME as the server. I also think that Metrocast's average may be hurt by those using the basic highspeed at up to 1.5 Mbps.

BTW, I get the same speeds on my laptop as I do on the desktop, so wireless shouldn't come into play.

What kind of download speeds are you getting?

I just did the speed test here at home. We have Time Warner, Road Runner broadband

And that is via wireless. Not cabled in.

At work in Wolfeboro it was only 2.79 for a download via Metrocast. I guess I would rather have Time Warner.

The NH Electric Cooperative offered something awhile back. Not sure what it was.

There is DSL from the telephone company.

There is satellite broadband.

None are cheap though.

My Download is 6.80 Mb/s
upload is 0.49 Mb/s
Ping is 28

This is metrocast out of Laconia. It's not only the speed its the damn cost of it also. I'm just not a metrocast fan!

Have you run more tests to determine where the slowdown occurs? While I am far from a fan of Metrocast, often people will blame their ISP for issues that exist within their own home LAN (local area network)

Another thing slowing things down a bit are travelers looking at all the canceled flights per the internet and all the kids home from school this week. I always notice a bit of a slow down during summer vacations and school breaks. But nothing real bad.

That seems very high for a residential internet speed. Also the ping is very high. Both are excellent, are you at home or using a business internet service?

I've found:

http://speakeasy.net/speedtest

to be more reliable and consistent in its results
