Default How many states have you lived in?

Argie's Wife's post in another forum got me thinking...

Now there have to be some criteria - a night at a hotel does not count as having "lived" in a state. Lets say owned or rented more than 2 months in one location (or parents, relatives owned/rented when you were too young to do so yourself). I'm not talking about where you went to basic training

My list:

New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, Iowa, Oregon, Washington and.... New Hampshire (love it here)

Using your two month rule:

I was born in and lived for a few years in, the state south of the greatest state in the union. Since then, I live in the greatest state in the union.

I have visited these states:
AK,AZ,CA,CO,CT,DE,DC,FL,GA,IL,IN,KY,LA,ME,MD,MA,MI ,MN,MO,NV,NH,NJ,NM,NY,NC,OH,OK,OR,PA,RI,SC,TX,UT,V T,VA,WA,WV

Only 14 left

Default Six...or seven

Started out in NH...then GA...NJ...VA...CT...NH (With 10 years in between)...and AL. Definitely was seven moves, with each one getting bigger as time went on!

Default Home Sweet Home

This looks like a fun question.
I was born in Illinois, then off to Florida, back to Illinois, then Louisiana, Connecticut, North Carolina, Maine, South Carolina, and finally here to New Hampshire.

Eight.

Now that is not a very long list, but we lived in several towns in each of those states, so the number of dwellings that I lived in is closer to 30.

I have to say that I am very happy here, and do not feel the urge to move on!

For the record... I've held a driver's license in those states, signed a lease (rented an apt in other words), and had W-2 forms from employers. I've lived in NH from 2000 to present, and was raised in Maine. I lived like a gypsy from 1989-2000 - over thirty moves in that time. Sometimes the moves were within a state, other times it was going back to a state I'd been in - it was all for my first husband's work. I've upgraded since then to Husband 2.0.

Would love to live here.

Born in NY schooled in Ohio. Summered at Squam Lake and Sandwich.

As soon as I barley graduated high school I headed to NH to live.

My work and recreation keeps me at the lake about 300 days a year

I figure that is worth at least the first $200,000 in salary

Default living

I was born in Maine, I understand that my crying made us move out after 6 months., we moved to Mass. where I found some glue and sat in it, but that did not keep me there, we moved to another part of Mass and I lived there for 15 years, but up until that point I spent the summers (or most of the summer) at Alton Bay. I then went to the Navy and found IL, FL (2 times), VA (2 times) Penn. Long beach CA, Quin Nhon Vietnam, CA, and CT 2 times)

I now live in CollecaTax (CT) and hope to one day sell out and move to NH but that is not looking good.

Exactly. I know what you mean twoplustwo.
It feels like a giant bungie cord in the sky, pulling me back.
And when I'm there ,I take a big sigh, and feel like I am where I belong.
And John Birdsall.....I can relate to what you said too: "it's not looking good", since my husband doesn't seem to have any interest in N.H. I'm going to get him up there this summer though.....and maybe, who knows. He thinks it's so cold there, but right now, it's actually 16 degrees warmer up there than it is in northern Ct. !!!

NH native, CA, CO now back in NH for now anyways. Been all around the world thanks to 4 years in the service and 2 extended over seas deployments.

Unlike everyone on here however am not particularly fond of the east coast. NH while a beautiful state feels to cramped and regulated for my taste. I need the big sky country where you are free to roam. Around here everything is some gated exclusive members only community and I also find that folks here tend to be clicky, snobby and unfriendly too. Case in point, walk around anywhere and notice how many people avoid making direct eye contact with you, never mind say a dreadful hello. It's amazing. I just got back from a trip to TX where folks are so friendly and courteous. It makes me sad, just for the fun of it I'll go out of my way to say hi to complete strangers say in the gas station or somebody walking by to see the horrid looks I've gotten in return which are absolutely priceless. My dear wife of many years who is a native of CA observed this immediately upon us moving here and asked me what's up with people here. I just say it's a New England thing and leave it at that.

That's not to say that everyone fits this mold, but I would venture to say that a majority does. Ain't going to stop me from being friendly but I think I'm more suited to live in a place where that is appreciated.

Default States I've lived in

NJ, SC, GA, FL, (GA again), (FL again), (GA again), VA, NH, ME, (back to NH, thank goodness). So that's 7 states, not counting duplicates or multiple residences in a few of them.

I have visited 48 states many times; I have missed Alaska and Hawaii (both hard to get to in a tractor-trailer, which I drove for 6 years, hauling hazardous materials and oversize loads), plus various places in Canada and Mexico (also in the truck).

It was interesting figuring out where I was "from" when I drove the truck:
The HQ of the company I worked for was in TX
The main offices were in MO
The main terminal was in GA
My tractor was registered in OK
My trailer was registered in OR
My dispatcher was in IL
I was assigned to a fleet based in OR
But was hauling for another company in WA
The closest terminal when I came home was in MA
And I lived in NH

That's interesting, because I have found that most people in most places are about the same, except CA, where I find your description of the "New England thing" applies very well, and many things there are way over-regulated. I guess it all depends on your own viewpoint and attitude. Although I worked a lot in the 11 western states for a few years, I much prefer the east. To each his own, right?

Default Only two

Born in Massachusetts and would retun there in a minute. Then NJ which was last on my list of places I would live. I even went to college and law school in MA, but married a Jersey boy so here I am.

But, like others have said, I might have lived in MA and NJ, but I darned well better die in NH!
