Lake Host Volunteers Needed
Posted on request of the Moultonborough Milfoil Committee
The Lake Host Program is a courtesy boat inspection program implemented by the New Hampshire Lakes Association, in cooperation with local participating groups and towns to prevent the introduction and spread of exotic nuisance species, including plants such as Variable Milfoil and other aquatic species like Asian Clams from lake to lake. In support of Moultonborough's proactive program to control the growth of exotic plants such as Milfoil, volunteers are urgently needed in support of this program. You can volunteer for as little as 1/2 day on a Saturday or Sunday once a month during the summer. Exotic aquatic plant infestations in lakes and ponds are undesirable because they make recreation in and on the water dangerous and unpleasant, disrupt the ecological balance of these water bodies, reduce shoreline property values, and are difficult and expensive to control. Trained Lake Hosts staff boat ramps to: • Educate visiting boaters about exotic aquatic plants • Conduct a brief boater survey • Conduct courtesy boat and trailer inspections to remove all hitchhiking plant fragments and teach boaters how to do so • Send suspicious plant fragments to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services for identification If you are interested in volunteering, please call : Paul Ardito at (603) 544-2700 Tracy Waterman at (603) 986-3384 Best Regards, Moultonborough Milfoil Committee
