Meadowbrook 2009 Summer Line-Up
I've been disappointed that Meadowbrook has primarily become a venue for country and western acts....must be in response to what sells tickets in the area. However, just announced for this summer, JACKSON BROWNE!! This is quite a coup to get such a high calibre act (IMHO). Here are some of the other acts lined up so far.

With all due respect
I don't see where Meadowbrook is primarily country and western. Although, not all bad by me .
Here is last years line-up, which certainly isn't top heavy with C&W.

All in the perspective
By my count, this is 40% C&W. That certainly is quite a bit.

Concert dates
All I was looking at were the concert dates. To my eye, 7 out of 25 are C&W or about 28%.
Reminds me of taking Statistics in college, when the Professor introduced himself (don't remember his name, only his next line) and said "Welcome to Stats 101; this is where you'll learn to tell your side of the lie!" When Meadowbrook gets their full lineup of dates, it will be interesting to see what the make up of music is then.

Did you know that 70% of all statistics are made up on the spot. That being said, I do think Meadowbrook could spice up the selection at the venue. There are a lot of really good bands that are not main stream, are really good, and that would also draw good crowds. Maybe some mainstream jazz as well. Or bands such as Arcade Fire, Cat Power, or something like Flogging Molly. It doesn't always have to be country, or some old time rocker with his walker.

Blues!
I would love to see Meadowbrook bring in some blues bands like Buddy Guy, Coco Montoya, or how about some jazz rock musicians like Jeff Beck or John Mclaughlin.

sounds the same
Most modern country acts sound like Jackson Browne anyway these days In fact most of these country acts that come to Meadowbrook sound like a combo of the Eagles and Bob Seger. Current country for the most part is like R&R with a little twang & steel guitar thrown in.

What about some electric (or acoustic) Hot Tuna? Ratdog? Dylan was there two years ago, as was Neil Young. Good stuff.

Dylan YES; Neil Young, NO.
Neil Young was never at Meadowbrook, according to their 'past performance' page. Maybe you're thinking of Crosby, Stills and Nash, who have been there - more than once.

You are right
Quote:
The latest schedule is 80% C&W and 90% boring. :-) Jetro Tull was great last year. Let's get more acts like that. I think that the big issue is that most folks are not inclined to buy seasons tickets unless they like the majority of acts. I don't know how C&W oriented the lake is; not my thing. Personally, I just pick and choose. It is cheaper to buy broker seats (great seats) to select performances than consider a season pass. Seriously, I will be interested in the balance of the schedule. Hopefully, they can bring in some great performers. Jetskier |

As a subscriber, each week i get first dibbs on tickets for next year.Yesterday when i got the invite for Jackson Browne, the first thought that entered my mind after reading the following:
"On 1996's Looking East, he addresses various aspects of personal growth and social struggle, and their interconnectedness in the world around him." First thoughts were " he addresses various aspects of personal growth" Oh really. And did that growth include some eduation or reflection on his history of being abusive to women. ??? His first wife committed suicide and his relationship with Darrell Hannah ended because of him regularly beating her up . I am a musican and I do follow this stuff. I actually do like a half dozen of his songs and I enjoy playing them for a small crowd.I simply will not go ,knowing that in a small way,I am supporting him. I don't know if he has learned anything from his past actions.i don't know if he still beats "his woman" .But simply to ask the question scares the hell out of me.

I just saw the summer line up and I think it's pretty good. I see Lynard Skynard in coming in June. I saw them with the Doobie Brothers in Hartford, CT a couple of years ago and thought it was a fantastic concert. Too loud, but a great show.
I guess I am getting old and can't take the noise. What, generally speaking, are the ticket prices for Meadowbrook? I have never been there. thanks TG |

Meadowbrook does schedule a lot of different groups but they schedule what the concert goers are willing to pay for and want. They sell out or close to it almost every time so they are doing something right.
The Sugarland concert is a make up from last year and Meadowbrook has been nominated for a CMA (Country Music Award) this year so Counrty is here to stay. All music does play an important part but it seems to me (IMHO) that country music has gained in popularity because a lot of it is cross over and played on other than all country stations. For me growing up with live music being played at my home, cottage and friend homes plus being a long ago DJ I like most music. I did say most though.

I too wasa thinking they would do well if they had a Jazz Festival up here. Like a weekend thing. Like the Newport Jazz festival, just a bit smaller...
Might bring in some good revenue. I also liked the Folk Festival that was up in Bangor for a few years. Tons of people and it brought in a lot of money to Bangor. Just my opinion though! |

Anyone got a URL for Meadowbrook? Never heard of it. Indoor? Outdoor? Capacity? Ticket prices? Directions? Times? Dates?
Just give me the stats, folks -- just the stats. |

We go to a half dozen shows a year. Some do not sell very well. They've given tickets away for some of the shows. I've received free ticket offers every summer for at least the last 3-4 years.
I'd like to see some of the old favorites return that we've seen over the past couple of years like Chicago, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Allman Brothers. It'd be great if they could book Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes up there. They play the Casino every summer and sell it out. Meadowbrook may be a bit too big a venue for them to play alone though. |

Allmans/WSP
I just received the pre-sale notice for the Allman Brothers with Widespread Panic -- August 24th @ Meadowbrook. And I actually am quite confident that I will be in the area for that one. Wooooooooooot!!

I am surprised to see this one scheduled. Creedence Clearwater Revisited
http://www.meadowbrook.net/?page=eve...ow_code=061709 Why see the pretenders when you could have seen the real thing? John Fogarty was at Meadowbrook last summer. His show was fabulous. He played all his great CCR hits, many of his own, and his voice has not lost a tone in all these years. Two of my children who weren't sure who he was went with us. They loved it. Every new song he played was greated with a delighted, "Oh, I know this one!" The part that was disappointing was that the place was only 2/3rds full. |

Music Venue of the Year Nominee
Meadowbrook was nominated again for Music Venue of the Year by the Academy of Country Music this year. I think the awards air tonight.
The CMA website says that The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville won, though. http://www.acmcountry.com/awards/nominees.php Say what you want about the show line-ups - everyone's taste is different - but they bring people into the area! Congrats Meadowbrook! |

Probably, like me, he's signed up for their on-line newsletter and announcements. If so they'll send you an e-mail whenever a new act is announced.

My first time over there will be the Moody Blues in August. My gf is dragging me kicking and screaming to see Bob Dylan/John Melancamp and somebody by the name of Willie Nelson. Not really my thing, and five hours is more than plenty for me.
Hey, I saw Elton John last summer over here and he played great for 3 1/2 hours straight. Great job. We should both be thankful you have such a great location and venue. |

They have a pretty darn good lineup considering the location of the venue. I'd sure love to see ZZ and Aerosmith myself. One thing I've found over the years, as I'm not a country fan, is that concerts are different. Just being there and getting out is most of the fun. Heck, I even have some Brad Paisley songs in my itunes list. Love Ticks
On another note. The folks at Meadowbrook seem to be first class. I ordered my tickets for the Moody Blues online. I wasn't very careful on a couple of things. The very next day, I got a call from them wanting to kjnow if I really meant to buy four dinner tickets when I had purchased just two concert tickets. I goofed! They credited me in full that day and ran it through at the corrected price. The woman that called me also gave me a little help finding area lodging, since a triathalon is scheduled that weekend and everything is booked. Another plug. The people at the Naswa gave me a lot of help deciding on lodging, even asking me if I called such and such a place. All in all, a great experience. Looking forward to a weekend getaway. |

Bigger acts mean more $$$ and that means higher ticket prices. I think it's a good lineup this year but nothing I'm too wild about myself only because I've seen some of the acts on the list at sometime or another because they tour regularly. We don't go out much because we have to hire a sitter so when we do it's usually for a concert.
I have been very pleased with some of the acts that Meadowbrook has brought into the area. Someone in an earlier post said it well when they mentioned that they might bring their young 'uns to Meadowbook - it is a place you can bring your children, of course depending on the act, but I've seen families sitting on the lawn to enjoy the show. My oldest son loves classic rock and I look forward to taking him to his first concert someday. Hopefully it will be at Meadowbrook! My only question is... What, no Garrison Keillor this year? (I'm a PHC junkie!) |
