Default Be Aware...

My weather forecast has suddenly called for a change to thunderstorms--starting about lunchtime, and for the rest of the day.

It’s not that a waterspout turned into a tornado. It was a tornado over water, and a tornado over land.

Post Didn't See Or Hear It, But Only Two Miles Away...

12:40 Tornado Alert...
There must have been dozens of boats to witness the phenomenon, based on the panicked rush to get out of Winter Harbor.

Quoting the News Center:
Quote:

"Tornado warned storm caught on video producing waterspout on Lake Winnipesaukee".
https://www-newscentermaine-com.cdn....0-05a3e9bb76c4

"WOLFEBORO, N.H. — A strong thunderstorm fired up in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire early this afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for the area at 12:40 p.m.

The storm was at its strongest as it moved from Moultonborough, NH to Wolfeboro, NH. (It seemed to be coming from Tuftonboro, but I could only see half of it).

Ethan Vandewater caught it forming an apparent waterspout north of Moose Island, on the east side of Lake Winnipesaukee."

ApS is correct; waterspout is the proper term for a tornado that forms over water and, a water spout that then moves over land becomes classified as a tornado. Waterspouts (with the exception of fair weather waterspouts which form from the waters surface upward) are associated with the same weather patterns that cause tornados; hence the tornado warnings.

Yes, I am aware that a waterspout is a tornado over water. I didn’t like the phrase “turned into a tornado.” It was one to begin with.

Exclamation

Another nasty storm approaching. It's over Meredith now, but is headed directly east—towards Wolfeboro.

Again...

Nice night to be on the porch...until your daughter walkies you that she's too scared to walk back to camp in the lightning.

We need the rain, though, so bring it on.

Also, the soundtrack for tonight's storm is Sam Cooke and Journey, with a little Paul Simon mixed in.

When we left Welch island this morning the temp was 50 degrees. When we reached mainland and were about 1 mile inland the temp was 39 degrees!!

You have to love the lake warming effect this time of year on the islands!!

It's probably still August in Wolfeboro. Time does go by slowly over there.
