Derby
The Meredith Rotary Club has not posted the date yet. I do check back for the calendar and will let you know when I find out.
Last year it was February 5th. The prizes awarded are pretty amazing and the contributions the derby has made are fantastic! |

Fishing Derby
Just saw an article in the Laconia Citizen. Ice Fishing Derby and World Championship Dog Sled Races are the same weekend. Could be a little bit crowded around the Lake that weekend. Dogs, sleds, fishermen, quads, snowmobiles, bob houses, ......Wow.

The More the Merrier!
Sounds like it will be a great weekend at the Lake. I love watching the dog races and all the fun at the Derby as well. What fun!

Rotary Fishing Derby
Check out todays article in the Laconia Citizen. Derby officals are meeting about safety porblems of both events on same weekend. Feb. 1 meeting to decide if Derby will be held. Much depends on weather. Ice thickness is always a concern. Keep our fingers crossed.

Fishing Derby
Rattlesnake Gal, When is the Alton Winter Festival. I have a group of 5 couples looking for someplace to go in February. Not everyone fishes. Thought the derby weekend would provide some entertainment, between the fishing and the dog sleds. The wives were looking forward to doing some shopping and all of us going out to dinner etc. Hockeypuck

Alton Winter Festival
Typically the Alton Winter Festival is held on President's weekend, so this coming year it should fall on Saturday, February 18th.
(Uunless they decide to move it back to the Sunday schedule, which would be the 19th.) Upthesaukee, any input? |

Alton Winter Festival
Rattlesnake Gal, Thanks for the festival dates, will keep them in mind. What activities go on in Alton that weekend? I know this does not come under the fishing thread. Maybe switch over to recreation. Thanks again, Hockeypuck.

It is also combined with the Laconia Sled Dog Races. Both events are going to be the same weekend this year.

19.95 battery op jigging tip-up
Two D cell batteries and it's good for 12 hours, and that's in cold water. Me, my girlfriend, a bottle of adult beverage, the hot tub and a battery operated tip-up. Now, that's what the locals call 'going native or something - Lake Winnipesaukee style! So, come on ice, freeze that water, freeze it all already, & all over again, fuhreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze !

Saw one big truck, a late model Ford f350 or something, on Little Squam about 100 yards out from the Black Horse motel beach. What is Little Squam? In a different climate zone than Winnipesaukee or something? Saw a few pedestrian ice fisher people and a few Bob houses out on Centre Harbor bay. Lots of open water out by Timber-Governors-South Bear Island. Yesterday's high winds opened it up, a lot.
Oh well, if the ice fishing is too wet, there's always plenty January leaves to go rake up. |
