February 18, 2014 snow...
It is about 3:10 PM, and it has been snowing here on the west side of Alton Bay, about a half mile above the lake and just outside Sandy Point, since around noon. In the last hour to an hour and a half ago, the intensity has picked up. At about 245 we had two inches on the driveway, and now have 3 inches.
There is a tree that is less than a quarter mile up the road from me that I can no longer see. Even the house across the street is almost hazy to view. Snow is light and fluffy. More to follow.

The table was clean as of this morning! Notice the snow licking off the side of our roof with some icicles pointing almost horizontally. The icicles and snow tell a story of temperature rise and fall over the days and nights. UPDATE 1/2 hour later 8" and climbing about 2-3" an hour... Final total in Laconia is a 1 foot wide powdered donut. This foot of fresh snow was really light and fluffy.
Chance for more snow Sunday night after a brief warm up then LOOKOUT, we go back into the same weather pattern, arctic cold and a chance for a big east coast storm next Tuesday night - Wednesday. 29 Days 15 Hours and 30 Minutes until spring !! |

What did the one legged man say?
"I hope it snows a foot".... and he got his wish and then some.
We have 13 inches as I type this, with some very light snow still coming done. Snow is very fluffy, thanks to the colder temps today than what was expected. It is only 19 at Laconia right now.

PBFF, do you have a metal roof - just curious about the snow shift on the roof.
If we get rain Friday - anyone concerned about the snow buildup? I have at least 2 ft, maybe 3 on the roof. |

After another 3 or 4" tomorrow we will have a few pretty warm days and then back into the frigid cold. Hopefully it's warm enough to melt a lot of this before the next one. Last edited by PaugusBayFireFighter; 02-18-2014 at 10:06 PM. |

4 to 7 inches was forecast?
And they were right on. Four to seven inches from 1pm to 4pm and another four to seven from 4pm to 7pm. There was a total of 13" here on the hillside in West Alton at 7pm. Have not looked yet this morning.
We were going to ski today but a bad cold caught up with me yesterday and this morning I have a 650' steep driveway to clear. I keep telling my wife that she should learn to drive the snowplow and the tractor but she is way smarter than that. |

13.5 on the hill
Report from the hill - as of 7:00 pm last night 13.5 inches on pine mountain in Alton and still comming down.
Not quite sure what that big bump in the driveway is. A sleeping polar bear, sasquach(sp), Honda?

Taken this morning looking toward Diamond and Rattlesnake from LSP
Beautiful morning, no wind, warming up a little.

We ended up from 14-16 inches over on Winnisquam. Keep the shovels handy as they are predicting 2-4 which actually will be 6-10 for today's storm.

Plowtruck
The plow truck let out a gasp and snapped it's eyes open when it heard me coming this morning to wake it up.

Winnisquam
Winnisquam was buried! I had about 15" smack in the middle of the driveway this morning.
Driving from Concord up 106 around 1 PM, I experience complete white out many times and had to stop the vehicle. There were a lot of vehicles on the side of the road, either waiting for the snow to subside, down the embankment or in the snow bank. Only one fender bender. What teed me off was some jerk tailgating all the way up 106. He/She made me really nervous, especially when his windows were all fogged up on the inside. If he ever rear end me, make it good! I could use a new vehicle!

Conditions on the ice?
With all the snow lately I'm wondering what this has done to the cover on the ice. Although the warm up forecast for the weekend does not sound good, I'd like to get some feedback from anyone that's been on the lake. I'm looking to ski or snow shoe to the islands from Gilford and wonder if there are wet or slushy patches under the snow? Any reports or comments would be most appreciated!
