As Memorial Day weekend kicks off, it’s the perfect time to learn how we can better protect the lake we all enjoy. We’re hosting a series of community talks on stormwater, septic systems, and cyanobacteria—each offering simple ways to help keep Lake Winnipesaukee clean and healthy this summer.
Starting this weekend, you can also find our weekly articles in the Laconia Daily Sun’s Boating section, beginning with a piece on lake levels and boating safety. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stormwater Matters Moultonborough Public Library Thursday, May 29 | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Join us for an in-person presentation on the newly updated 2025 Stormwater Manual. Learn how the latest science, rainfall data, and BMPs are shaping regulations and what that means for development and lake health. Open to all—developers, town officials, contractors, and community members. Hear from Deborah Loiselle, NHDES Stormwater Coordinator, and James Houle, Director of the UNH Stormwater Center. Register Here --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be Septic Smart Moultonborough Public Library Saturday, June 14 | 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM Learn how to protect your septic system—and our lakes. Gary Spaulding of Advanced Onsite Solutions will explain how to prevent costly repairs, reduce pollution, and keep your system running efficiently. Mr. Spaulding is a NH Permitted Designer, Installer, Certified Septic System Evaluator, and Licensed Wetlands Specialist. Register Here --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Safeguarding Meredith’s Waters: A Community Forum on Cyanobacteria Meredith Community Center Wednesday, June 18 | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM The evening will feature a presentation by Laura Diemer of FB Environmental, made possible through funding from the Waukewan Watershed Advisory Committee, highlighting the Waukewan Cyanobacteria Monitoring Source Water Protection Grant Project. A panel discussion will follow, with representatives from University of New Hampshire (UNH), New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services(NHDES), and regional partners addressing questions and discussing how communities can respond to the growing challenges posed by cyanobacteria. Local organizations will also have display tables with educational resources and opportunities to get involved. Come learn how regional collaboration is helping to protect our waters and the steps we can all take to safeguard the health of our lakes.
