Missing Markers Thread
Just passing along a heads up to markers that are missing. Figure the MP could use the heads up so having a thread here to post any that are missing will help those guys out big time.
Blacktop north of Shep's slips is missing. It was broken off at the base just before ice out. Blacktop and accompanying orange flasher E of Pine Island near the north entrance to the Bear Island NWZ are both missing. Make sure you pass well wide of Pine Island here, that's a really nasty spot. One of two blacktops to the north of the YMCA girls camp on Bear Island are missing. Both blacktops off east Bear Island just to the north of the YMCA boys camp are missing. They are usually well off shore and form a somewhat narrow passage between them and the red top off the small island (don't recall the name). That's another nasty spot so if you pass between that island and East Bear, stay close to that red top. Be safe out there! |

No wake / headway speed markers
Are missing from the Weirs Channel. Sunday there were a few boneheads that figure they can blast through the channel because the signs were not there. Where are the MPs when you need them.

great thread!
Thanks for starting this thread MAXUM. We didn't go too far in our travels this past weekend but it did seem like there were more missing markers this year than usual. I suspect it had to do with the massive and somewhat thick ice flow?
as you mentioned, FL #4 directly in front of us is missing and the high water gives people a little latitude, but there are still some rocks poking out there... it will show 20' deep and then gets nasty really fast... we've seen some lucky folks fly through there in the summer, somehow without taking out their lower unit! Good news is we haven't seen too much debris floating, hopefully it all washed up on shore with the ice. I believe the MP monitors this site, maybe Don will call out this thread to them and help get the markers back in place -PIG |

May not be "bone heads"

Unless of course the channel is narrow and you can't be 150 ft from both shores. Then yes a bone head move. EBR666 |

Missing markers
1. Red buoy off Watson point, Loon Cove, Alton Bay gone. With high water this one isn't too dangerous to miss
2. Black buoy north side of Moose Island gone - this one is dangerous because plenty of rocks near missing buoy |

Missing black top marker between Pitchwood and Eagle Island--it's the companion to FL 44 off Pitchwood. This one would be easy to hit, it is sheared off at water level in a high traffic area.

Re: MAXUM Report
The small island north of YMCA Camp Lawrence is Dollar I$sland. There is a red top spar buoy just off the west shore of Dollar. The two black top spar buoys denote ledge areas further west of the red spar towards Bear Island. The navigation route is between the red top spar and the black top spar nearer to the red top spar. The black top spar nearer to Bear is on the south edge of this ledge area [which is visible at lower water levels]. We plan to open our cottage this later this week and will report back re these spar buoys.

Missing off East Bear Island
We went over to Bear to open up our place on Saturday and called in to Marine Patrol about the two missing black spar buoys.

Missing marker
There is a red marker missing just east of Whaleback Island, as you come out the bay from Suissevale. Note to Bizer. It is times like this that I wish your map had all markers numbered, so I could just give the number of the marker missing.

Missing Markers on Alton Bay
I took a ride around Alton Bay over the weekend and found three missing markers. The red marker in Loon Cove (across from Echo Point) is missing. The black companion marker by the #23 lighted buoy (near Sandy Point) is missing and the red marker outside the entrance to the bay going into the conference center is missing.
It looks like the Marine Patrol will be busy this spring replacing all the missing markers. Last edited by playinghooky; 05-14-2014 at 10:50 AM. |

Channel Marker at West Alton
The first black channel marker, which would be on the left heading in, is displaced several yards from where it should be, and is actually next to and seemingly just the Sleeper Island side of the No Wake buoy.

I noticed some of the flashers have been deployed as well as the covers to the NWZ bouys near the Bear Island post office. So the MP is out and about.
When they will be able to start deploying replacements is anyone guess, they have a big job to do. |

South Wolfeboro Bay
Don't have the boat in yet but looks from shore that one of the 4 markers outlining the shallows in the middle of South Wolfeboro Bay appears to be missing.

The red and white Marker off of Long Island across from FL9 which is off of Sandy Island is missing.... in Short don't cut to close to Long Island coming up between Sandy and Long Island or there will be a price to pay.
As Mentioned some lighters marks are already out.... and the Marine Patrol was seen out and about this weekend... So hopefully we will see things getting fixed shortly....

Black Top to the N/NE of five mile island is not missing, but barely visible above water, maybe a foot at best. Being black it's hard to see it especially on a rough day. This is NOT the one that is next to the flasher.

A> In an email dated 19-Apr-06, the NH Marine Patrol advised Bizer, The MP is not numbering spar buoys. I am aware that Duncan Press numbered a Newfound Chart, however that was their doing. We have no plans to mark spars with any numbers at this time. In an email dated 30-Apr-06, addressed to Bizer and Duncan Press, The Marine Patrol said, in part, In addition, we are not using buoy numbers except for the flashing light buoys, and do not intend to use or mark spar buoys with numbers. |
