Good luck to anyone doing the Timberman Triathlon this weekend! I'm attempting the sprint portion as my first triathalon at 7:05 AM tomorrow. If anyone's up and about early near Ellacoya we (especially me!) could sure use the support!!

I've done a sprint before and was pleased with my results overall. However, I held back a little during the bike because I wanted to make sure I had enough gas left for the run (my weakest section).
I think I'm going to do the Timberman next year so maybe we'll be doing it together. Best of luck!!! You couldn't ask for a prettier spot to do a triathlon!!! ![]()

![]() ![]() The Granite Man Triathlon is happening too. Does anyone know why these events aren't separated by a few weeks, so that people can attend and participate in both? |

I did my first Triathlon at the Timberman Sprint, too! It was a personal challenge, and helped get me to some weight loss goals... I lost 56 pounds! Yahoo! And, I came in under the time I had projected for myself. It was a great day for an amazing event!
Thanks to the many volunteers that staff the event (I volunteered on Sunday too), and the community for bearing with the traffic changes. |

I met an extraordinary man during the weekend. Scott Rigsby is a double amputee who is competing in the ironman series. He completed the Hawaiian Ironman. He is a great motivator. I have never seen anyone with so much positive energy.

Did anyone here see the tame Canada goose at Gunstock during registration? It stood in line with everyone for two hours to pick up his packet. Very entertaining!

Yes I did! Some guy ended up picking him up and bringing him over to the pond next to the playground. The goose was not happy about it, I'm sure he'd been training hard over the summer and just wanted to get his packet!!

My wife and I walk through Gunstock often as we live close by. We walked with this little guy for a bit the other day.
Oh, and for your triathletes...I'm getting a bike and going to give a sprint a tri(y). Running only is causing too many injuries..

All the major half ironman races around the country are now under the reigns of Ironman Corporation affiliation. Basically the "M-Dot" label. I think the various organizers all felt pressured to join ranks with M Dot like Eagleman in MD, Buffalo Springs, Timberman, etc. Keith (the RD for Timberman) no doubt felt he had no choice. It does have an effect on the race for costs, etc but also some positives as well. Even in the crappy economy the whole race weekend sells out. |
